It is probably not going to happen but this wild thought struck me.

We need to boost our homegrown numbers, especially since Dele may be on the way out.

How about asking Schalke about Bentaleb? He's on the last six months of his contract and he is at odds with their office so they may even pay us to take him off their books.

And based off of what little I saw of Newcastle in the spring last season he was at least decent.

Again, probably not going to happen but I have a soft spot for Nabil since the time he broke out in our first team under Poch.

Newcastle didn’t sign him because he had a poor attitude. Schalke on the other hand have banished him because he keeps breaking club rules and has an atrocious attitude. Bentaleb is the last person we should be signing.

Fair enough. As I said it was mainly a shot in the dark since I knew that he counts as a homegrown. But his attitude issues will most likely be his downfall. Which is a shame because he was/is a talented player.

Watched that game yesterday, and it was absolutely toilet.

I rarely get a thrill watching Rennes or Lille, but both are pretty well drilled without the ball. Ligue1 in general is bereft of “exciting” attacking players, they all get mined pretty quickly, and the coaching generally is very tactically “sound” but lacking innovation. It’s not a league full of thrills and spills, but good to watch for young players.

That said, did you see the ASSE/Lyon game, I actually thought this was one of the most impressive Lyon games tactically I’d seen for a while (in Ligue1 anyway), they seemed to really get at it, pressed high and hard, kept at it most of the game and mullered St Étienne.

No, I did not watch that particular game. I don't think Garcia is getting enough out of that group of players. Looking forward to seeing what a new coach can do.

Strangely since his return to Schalke he notched up about half a dozen appearances at the start of this season, but was dropped on the change of coach to Christian Gross (remember him ?) apparently on the direction of Schalke's Sporting Director.

Bentaleb wasn't happy and made a post on instagram, which was liked by almost 10 of Newcastle's best players. So either Newcastle's players are fairly rebellious or his attitude at Newcastle wasn't that bad

These stories of a bad attitude do seem to follow him round - not sure if that is maybe because he is outspoken rather than having a bad attitude or what.

But in principle a 6 month loan from Schalke to see if he could work with Mourhino seems a decent idea to explore - club trained so a place in the squad without selling anyone and an extra player where we might be light, especially given Lo Celso's constant injury problems this season. If it works great, if it doesn't its not a huge cost

The 'pros' that I could think of;

the player has worked with our manager
the player is English
the player is accustomed to the league
the player would be pretty much 'free'
the player is an experienced international

edit:
forgot to add the 'whos' hahah muppet!

Dele for Lingard for 4 months... who'da thunk it eh?

I very much disagree, and think he’s the antithesis of a MOTD player. The things he excels at are not anything eye catching. He’s a bit one footed, he’s strong and has some technical press resistance but needs to keep working n it, He doesn’t specialise in MOTD moments, like goals and assists or tricks and flicks or 30 yard diagonal passes.
Good point, my bad. My criticism and wording was imprecise but what I mean is that his profile has been formed by the few goals and highlights that he indeed does have, the facts that he was so young on his debut, and the reports of RM's interest. That's it, that's all. Unlike some players that I describe as having "no there, there" he indeed does have raw materials upon which to build but there is a discordance between what has been displayed thus far relative to his profile. My point? No fucking way would or should anyone pay anything remotely close to 100M for this player. And if I was Rennes I would have sold him the second someone mentionted 100M (though rennes are minted but sensible).

My point? As of now he is myth.

I missed this weekend's game as my boy Renato has been injured. Figures he's come back this weekend after I watched the last 2 or 3 with him in the stands.
