Davinson Sanchez believes his situation at Tottenham Hotspur is getting ‘more complicated as the days go by’. The defender believes the signals coming from Jose Mourinho are anything but encouraging and he is ’taking refuge in his family'. [Futbol Red]
I still feel he gets a few chances in the league before Christmas. As much as he's been a nervy player over the past few years, I think he would have done a decent job at the weekend in what amounted at times to a back 6. Not sure what's going to happen with him to be honest, don't know what his market value is at this stage.

Since we need to boost homegrown numbers.

I saw this name suggested on Reddit, what about Will Hughes? Gets the league, could be a viable rotation option for Moussa. Mid 20s so just about to hit his peak years.

For some reason he has only played 2 games for Watford this season, but I cannot find any info on any injuries.

Unless we get some serious injuries over Xmas I'm happy for no action in January.

Squad is settled, strong and tight.

Unless a killer CB appears. Which it won't. Because what idiot would sell Upamecano in January.

Not really good enough. He's decent, but we should absolutely be striving to sign better players than Will Hughes.

Any analysis of our EL squad shows that we are short of HG players - that's why Spurs have nominated 22 year old GK Alfie Whiteman who played his first 10 minutes of professional football last week as one of our 4 Club Trained players.

And why Jack Clark is one of the 3 Association trained players nominated by Spurs in EL squad - and why we needed Association trained Joe Hart as back up goalkeeper, rather than another overseas trained player.

If Dele leaves (or any other HG player), our replacement option is almost certainly going to be an HG player. And even if we look to bring in HG players who play in different positions to help our HG numbers I don't see too many options (maybe raiding Bournemouth or Norwich for example) and even fewer who would positively improve the quality of the squad.

Our position will be slightly improved next season assuming Skipp and Tanganga are experienced enough to become regular starting options in matches and maybe Sessegnon if we know where he can play - and others coming through if experienced enough such as White, Cirkin and Clarke would help further.

Anyone wanting to look at the squad showing who is HG etc, the OP on this thread shows the current position. (5) Player - Our Squad 2020/21 | The Fighting Cock - Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs) Forum

January's transfer business will almost certainly be opportunistic - and in simple terms will be which overseas trained player(s) can be sold to create space(s) for incoming overseas trained players (and if we can get an experienced HG player in so much the better), and all within the financial constraints set by covid.

It would not surprise me if the only business was to 'lose' players not included in squads such as Rose, Gedson and Gazzaniga, with the squad remaining as it is until the summer. Although I'd quite like a player in to freshen up the squad the arrival of 7 in the summer who are still bedding in makes this less likely.

I think if we are in with a chance to win the league in Jan, we have to strike while the iron is hot. Our league position is hugely down to the manager, but he needs a little bit of support to get us over the line.

I get you.

But we also cannot rule out him improving alongside better players/another manager. And we are once again skirting around having not enough homegrown players in the squad which could be an issue.
If we're bringing in a midfield player it has to be somebody with plenty of athleticism, defensive sensibilities and better ball playing ability than Sissoko. Players I'd go for over Hughes starting with HG (though more expensive) would be Phillips, Rice, JWP, McTominay and then Douglas Luiz and and any amount of players in Europe.

Don't think we'd see a Hojbjerg level jump in performance from Hughes, he's not robust enough for what we'd need from him under Mourinho.

I still think back to Leipzig when he was an absolute warrior. If only he could keep up that sort of performance he'd be top drawer.

He's still young. Maybe Jose and Ledley are remoulding him and we'll see Sanchez Redux after the holidays.
