I knew it was bad, but not this bad.

Wow. I mean, we've signed our fair load of garbage over the years, but them two? To paraphrase the legendary Mr Clough, "I don't know if they're the worst signings we've ever made, but they're definitely in the top 1."

They've cost us an absolute fortune in fees & wages, and it ain't over yet! All that for 7 goals and not even 120 games 🤯😑🔫

I can't remember who it was who said it on here the other day, it went a bit unnoticed...but we should never ever have signed them both in the first place, seen how they're both AMs who like to hog the ball and we already had Dele in the squad. It was just so redundant.

Hopefully our board really learns from this whole shambles...here's hoping 🤞🏻

The problem is there is no plan. We signed the two players for Poch.

It was very odd that we signed Ndombele given his work rate/attitude had been heavily questioned while at Lyon. He was considered an ultra talented player but with a lazy air to his style of play, and one who consistently only turned up in bigger games.

Considering Poch had nightmare pre-season regimes and demanded work rate/focus like very few managers, making Ndombele the big record signing was always hugely risky. But clearly it was a Poch choice, and the club decided he had earned it.

Here's a stat to chew on.
Bentacur and Kulusevski have missed a combined total of 17 games in their career.

And that stat is massively padded out by Bentacur having covid in 20/21

GLC at Spurs - 49.
TND - 20. Plus fuck knows how many through lack of match fitness
I say bravo, good Sir.

Numbers never (well, rarely) lie.

At the very least, what we'll get from the newbies, is total commitment. And they'll show that by being ready to play every game.

It'd be interesting to also look at the difference in goals & assists on a per game basis. Wouldn't be surprised if Dej & Rod smashed the two drossers in that dept too.

Obviously different teams, leagues and all that...but still shows what a monumental mistake it was to sign Dombs & GLC.

If you really want someone, then you will do your business fast, not waiting for the very last possible moment. You should expect someone to come and steal your target by the way we handle our business. Not to mention we always low balling.
Our window is just as bad as usually.

Fair enough. Can't argue with that.

That's why mocking and bullying a fan with Gooner and Sol Campbell jibes seemed a step too far I guess and I couldn't let it go unchallenged.

Well worth my yellow card
I’m not trying to be sanctimonious. I let myself down far more often than I care to admit. Just think that everyone here is able to make their points, disagree, and accept that others won’t agree with them/ have views they see as wrong without getting so wound up.

Any chance we can bring Eva Carneiro over also ....

Beautiful but looks like argumentative

You are on the wrong forum if you wish for that mate.
I once had someone go loco at me and another poster because we wanted the team to go back to wearing the kits of the 60s&70s...

Conte didn't ask to sign Drinkwater
I see many posts on here where they seem to be using the Drinkwater case to question AC's aptitudes at signing talent.

Let's assume Conte really wanted him and pushed the CFC board hard.

Yup, we all know how that went to shit big time, but...

1/ Could Conte have predicted that? He's a magician, but I don't think he can see into the future or read a player's soul

2/ How many managers, even just in recent history, have insisted to sign a guy and said guy, who was superb at his previous (smaller) club, suddenly started acting like a knob off the pitch and lost his football on it?

3/ How many other players did Conte sign for his previous clubs and who went on to become class? And how many average players who were already at clubs Conte took charge of, were turned into star performers by the big man?

So what if it was indeed Conte who desperately wanted that Danny twat and it proved a total bust? Does it mean that automatically Kulusevski & Bentancur are gonna be shit?

Really feels as though that's the message some on here are trying to get across...and I think that's real weak

Haha - so the USA, the most polarised society on the planet, that's aggravated by Brexit - why not blame Levy JT that makes about as much sense.

Polarisation of society is far more likely a global phenomenon caused by the internet allowing extreme left and right wing views to be normalised, by allowing sound-boxes where like minded idiots can brainwash each other into a common lunacy - that pretty much applies to everything from politics to football forums. It has bugger all to do with Brexit, Brexit may have been polarised by clickbait media and the sound-box internet, but it's only a symptom it's not a cause.
When I was young (and dinosaurs roamed the earth) everyone read the local newspaper and there were always two or three cranks who would write an angry letter to the editor once a month (or whatever the limit was). It was good for a laugh and nobody thought much of it. Now that person has a computer and instead of once a month it's a bunch of angry posts every day. Probably not doing their mental health any good and it sure doesn't make the world a better place.

1: We can't win the league this year, don't be abursd. You can argue that almost 3 years on from the CL final that we should have gotten ourselves in a position to be a genuine contender, yes. That's on Levy and ENIC. 100%. No argument from me, it's frustrating how far we've fallen off. But there was no sense whatsoever in expecting the January window to provide a title-challenging overhaul when we're so far behind.

2: It's all relative. 6/10 is a better window than all our Top 4 rivals. All of them. It's not good enough in a vacuum, but in context, it's been fine.

I am frustrated how far we've fallen. I'm frustrated we did poor business in the summer and wasted time hiring and persisting with Nuno. Who knows how much better things would have been if we just appointed Conte to begin with? We don't know. There's little point getting hung up on it now.

There were multiple objectives this January: get out the deadwood, bring in players Conte specifically can work with. Getting deals for Lo Celso, Ndomele and Dele would have been time consuming. Getting the two players we got in would have been time consuing. We were a whisker away from Diaz, but for once it failed because of external factors (that external factor being Liverpool). Traore went to Barca because he wanted to. This is all squeezed into a window which is difficult for everyone.

Going into the summer is when crunchtime is. Conte and Paratici working together with a proper preseason and full summer window for the first time. You could say the Paratici signs are worrying because last summer the players he got in have either not performed or aren't ready for the Premier League. But I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt for now because now he's working with a genuine top class coach in Conte. We should also be able to clear the decks further with Lo Celso and Ndombele finding permanent moves which makes more space for better replacements.

I'd love Joe Lewis\ENIC to decide to go mental and throw buckets of their own cash in, but that's not how they operate. I'd love Levy to go a bit more risky and splash the cash but that would be against his nature as he's built the club up to only spend what it brings in. I personally think a small amount of speculate to accumalate is in order given the amount of cash CL football will bring in, but again it's not how he operates. He's seen how Leeds did that and ended up outside the PL for years. Maybe he's too cautious, I can't change this though. Me complaining on a forum won't change diddly squat. Spurs haven't dropped down the league because of fans, if you really really blame ENIC and Levy then you're letting them off the hook by putting the blame on fans who put their cash in.

Maybe new ownership is the change we need, maybe we need someone in to drag us over that line, but again they're not going to sell cheap because some guys on TFC are kicking off. Someone needs to want to buy Spurs. And we're not Newcastle, someone can't come in withg a piddly £250m and buy us, we're on a different level to Newcastle, there are very few people or companies who could step in.

So yeah, I'm frustrated we keep getting so close while other teams around us get to celebrate trophies. I'm irritated pissy little clubs like Man City win so many trophies now when they were a joke when I was growing up. But there are things I accept I cannot change. This doesn't make me believe Levy is the greatest chairman in the world or an ENIC lover or any other purile insult you wish to throw at me. I'm just a season ticket holder with the power to change very little. I could refuse to renew next season, but no. I won't. I never thought I'd be in a position to be a ST holder at Spurs. I refuse to give that up.

Some things are shit. Some things are ok. I'm Spurs and I'm here for the ride.
This is superb.

Hats off to you, my man.

Someone here posted a list of all Contes trfs a while back (which IIRC was posted to support the idea of backing him in the market)... His hit-rate and improvement rate was pretty damn good.

Putting an undue amount of weight on Danny Drinkwater (whoom it is widely suggested Conte didn't even want) or any one player really does reek of a agenda.

The age of everyone against everyone.
I don't know if you've watched Humanity from good ol' Ricky Gervais, but he talks about how now it is all about being right, about how unknown people will stop at nothing to be right on a public platform like Twitter...even if that means taking their opinion as Gospel, though it may be totally factually incorrect. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story etc.

Love how he also uses that example of a guitar teacher having a big ad board in town, with people ringing him to tell him they don't want fucking guitar lessons. If you see something and you don't like/agree with it, just move on.

Though, admittedly, when you see someone spouting some serious garbage, especially repeatedly...it's very tempting to tell them to shut the eff up and also prove how silly they are

Yeah that one will always feel like gross negligence to me.

It wasn't just at Lyon that there were reports of Dombs being lazy, nonchalant and with generally a difficult character. It was everywhere.

If there had been proper due diligence work done, we wouldn't have signed him. I'd have been fine with just GLC and go figure, signing just the little Argy might have worked out. We'll never know.
