Why would you play a right footed RCB on the left?

Some right footed players are perfectly comfortable playing right or left - left footed Gareth Bale was a LB and left sided midfielder but has done even better as a right sided attacking winger

Not in the same class (yet hopefully ), Japhet Tanganga who is right footed played as LCB for the majority of his time in Spurs youth as he was better than the available left footers.

There's a different dynamic to the demands of that position though.... These days RAM/LAM are often inverted for purposes of cutting in and shooting on the stronger foot.

As we've seen with Trippier, Naughton, Toby & Sanchez; whether at FB or CB, being on your opposite side hampers a) the fluidity of your movement and b) brings about an undesirable instinctual tendency to cut inside rather than play the ball with width.

........Not that I'm suggesting that no-one can do it to a suitable degree for a back=up player.

Also, we still don't know if Conte considers Davies a long term solution or merely the right man for the interim and sees him as back-up longer-term. I've always liked and supported Ben, but I won't pretend he's not upgrade-able.

Agreed however my argument simply put is that a right footed player who is comfortable playing on the left is an acceptable back up player and even primary player (another example being James Justin a right footer spent much of last season playing LB and had he not been injured might have ended the season as Leicester's player of the year).

And when we have a number of positions needing an upgrade, then I'm more than happy with that compromise.

My personal thoughts are that Conte is happy with Davies who has done very well as LCB, but if a better LCB (Skrinia is LCB ?) becomes available Davies could be upgraded.

We're on the same page mate....

When I speak of defensive upgrades I don't say that with Jan specifically in mind.

As long as Conte is happy with Ben, then that's good enough for me.

Can't see that coming true. Romero has been unlucky so far but his class is clear, especially for that fee.
Hasn't shown much in a Spurs shirt to get excited about.

Think all the adulation is coming from his performances for Argentina

It's much different and of more benefit when a winger is cutting in on their good foot than a central player playing out long from the back etc.

It's also much better to be on your strong foot/side when trying to jockey and force players outside/away from goal. I'd wager naturally footed players on respective sides win far more duels/tackles.

Skriniar plays centrally/right side the vast majority of the time and is right footed.
