Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Actually watching that video of his goals last season, most of them are penalties and 6-yard-box tap-ins, with the very vast majority of the goals (even from further out) being the result of someone else supplying him. I'm not necessarily saying that doesn't make him a great striker etc - Lineker made a great career of little more than finishing in some people's opinion - but does it suggest that he is all about finishing and very little else, and if so, is that ok for us?

If you compare to Kane, over the years there have been loads of goals where he has got a yard on the man in front of him before smacking one in the corner - I don't see any of those goals in that Vlahovic video, he never has to beat a man... But perhaps if you're always in the right place at the right time, you don't need to beat a man (or have effectively already done so off the ball by finding the space)... ??? :/

Potentially a Serie A Vinny Janssen.

I think the Kane haterz on this site are also going to have big issues with Vlahovic once they see him playing in a Spurs shirt.

Yusuf Demir

Brilliant in Fifa & we could get him cheapish (£11m)

We’ll probably miss out as he’s on loan at Barca from Wien but they’re skint

Tnink I’ll send my portfolio to baldy

Internet saying Tarkowski in January. A bit underwhelming to be honest.
It's a yes from me.

“I played left side of three (centre-backs) for England and, at the time, I was playing right side of two (centre-backs) for Burnley.

How have Whiteman & Austin been doing? .....Any good?

Whiteman has been playing regularly for the Swedish side Degefors, Austin is at Spurs as 3rd GK now but was playing in USA (remembering he was there to cover s. american gk when playing for his country) and before that for his Danish side Viborg.

Not a lot of coverage of any of those sides, but both now have some experience at mens football (Whiteman 11 games, Austin 20 games - not a lot but better than zero ) and both seem to be trusted as 3rd GK.

I've seen more of Austin than Gollini. IMO Austin is as good as if not better than Gollini. It's a no brainer for HG.

Get rid of Gollini. Not sure why we got a foreign keeper. Its the easiest way to free up a space in the squad.

And the old school English #9/big lump is going the way of the dodo as well. They don't exist at big clubs anymore...except us.

Lukaku would likely disagree with that last point, unless somehow he has joined the ranks of Benezema in the overrated based on the "other stuff" he supposedly, but doesn't, do.

Especially when said foreign goalkeeper doesn’t seem to possess any hands which makes it almost impossible for him to make a save. Any save, ever

In fairness, I guess he is a loan so easy to send him back and bring back Austin or Whiteman

You know I’m with you on this as a general notion (if not always the specifics), but has to be pointed out, Pep seemed to be very willing for cheeky to pay a few bob for Kane.
Yes, he did. And if I were a manager I would want as many quality options at my disposal as I could possibly get. I don't think it's damaging to the overall point though. At this time it would be reasonable to point out that he also offered half of what many thought he was 'worth'. So yeah, cheeky bid.

Klopp likes everyone to press but he's made exceptions for Salah. Don't think that contradicts Klopp's philosophy or general view of the game. He's just adjusted.

I also don't think Harry would be an ever-present in their lineup. If you remember I expected him to be "Dzeko-d" whenever they could find a player more suited. But when needed the reliable tool would be in the toolbox.

Also, I think strikers get more important, the shitter a team is. Having a bullying, pragmatic lump can win you a lot of vital points lower down the league. The value of a goal becomes a fuck of a lot more important when you have a goal difference of minus 26, versus City’s plus 70.
I know I've already responded to this one but it is thought provoking, Cranny. I've been putting time in on this one all day.
For example, what price do you put on Antonio? A jack of all trades. Busy. Physically demanding. A focal point in an exceedingly hard working team that squeezes every drop of talent from its ranks. I think he's a good (if limited) player. I would fully expect Spam to grossly overprice him, as he helps them achieve so much. Put him in our team, I don't think he'd score more than a handful. Would be a total waste of money.
I think Antonio is a donkey...but he's a donkey that no CB in the PL would like play against. And I don't think that is a statement most CBs would agree to in regards to Harry. With our team problems and what Harry brings I think most feel they can put their feet up when playing against us.

But to bus-conductor bus-conductor 's point from earlier, I would classify Antonio as a plan B striker. They may not be perfect for what you typically do but some problems call for different solutions, a plan B. I've always advocated for a plan B striker. But since I support Spurs I'd just be happy with jsut having any player as a second striker/an alternative to Harry. We don't even have that...but we did get 3 foreign GKs instead so we had that going for us.

Also, to your point of most overrated positions, can I add DM. I know I'm an old fart, but I don't think it's a specialist position. Being able to tackle and help shield your defence should be a prerequisite of a good midfielder, not an exceptional talent.
Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes! I hate this 'specialization'. This are just players that don't have the requisite skillset of the position, half-a-players. And it especially galls me with MFers, the guys that are supposed to be most well-rounded. It's part of why I haven't warmed to many of our players. They just have such great deficiencies in their basic skillsets.

If true, and I doubt it is, all that shows is that CBs in the PL are morons.

No it doesn't. It shows that players paid to defend their goal are concerned with the threats an opposing player has. Harry offers little intrinsic threat so they can put their feet up. Now when we were a better team and Harry had 15 seconds to lug that Steinway into the 6yd box and get on the end of a perfect pass for him to tap in they were concerned. Now? Not so much.

That is, unless you are talking about San Marino's CBs.

If they think playing against the best striker in the league and golden boot winner means tgey can put their feet up perhaps that is why Kane is racking up the goals.

There is no harder player to play against in the leagues for CBs than Harry Kane and likely nobody close.

To be fair, Pep and Klopp, rather than looking for a striker, focus on stockpiling the greatest attacking midfielders and wingers on planet earth. That they’ve been able to replace Aguero’s goals (injuries notwithstanding) doesn’t fundamentally undermine the value of an exceptional ten.

I broadly agree with you. I actually think the reason Klopp et al have moved away from standard tens isn’t because the position is necessarily overrated, rather that it’s hard to find a genuinely good one that doesn’t cost the same as America’s trade deficit.

Good post.

However, Firminho is a good example, or Todd’s Benzema. In those type of teams every AM is capable of 15-20 Goals.

Many games, especially ours last season, we were technically good enough to take leads, but then fell back and allowed Ings and his level to get on top.

City tend to overwhelm anyway, even if off colour, making their need for a target man muted, heck that little Spaniard did a decent job of pocket seeking, which Kane also now lacks in the cut n thrust of open play.

Funny, a lot of fans who know absolutely everything about football and every single player in the world, were all absolutely certain Gollini was the air apparent to Hugo, a great piece of business and, even though it was clearly stated it was a loan with an option, that it was done and dusted.

Only a few months later and most fans now want to send him back. 😂

He's shit horribly epically shit. He makes Craig Dawson look like VVD. He's Doherty level. Prediction he will NOT play for us. Feel free to quote this.
