Nope...... Quandry is, is there anyone else out there that both ticks those boxes and is realistically available to us?

I think we may see someone come in deeper to fulfil the press resistant role .. someone like Brozovic. Doesn’t necessarily need to be the 10 with the way Conte plays, if all our midfielders are technically capable/athletic and can contribute.

Chelsea have two great ones who play deeper in Kovacic and Jorginho. The best ever at it was prime Busquets. If we have that player and play round their ability to nullify a pressing game, we’ll benefit.

Bring Modric home I say. Or find a Dembele clone.

I really hope we go back in for Pau Torres even if we have to wait for the summer. He’s the perfect left sided CB for me.

I’d like

Tanganga Romero Torres

I’m really not sold on Torres the way others are. Very silky defender on the ball but he gets caught out for pace quite often, certainly a lot of positive attributes but I could see him struggling with the style in England for a good while.

Certainly an upgrade but worth a huge fee? Not sure. I wouldn’t see him as a guaranteed success in the Prem.

Most overrated position on the field. Most underrated? GK.

Striker's are rated because of the numbers of goals they score. They score because of the team's effort - as evidenced by numerous goals videos of these 'great footballers' tapping them in after all the hard work is done by others. Take the striker away from that particular team dynamic and it's a tossup as to whether they will 'succeed' because the scoring of goals is not an intrinsic quality of a player and goals are not transferable like on FIFA.
Im not sure this is as true as you think it is. Players that score goals tend to continue scoring goals wherever they go. Certain players get accused of only scoring tap ins but this ignores the movement, thought and sharpness needed to be a top quality goalscorer.

Sterling for example is derided as a tap in merchant with poor finishing but if you watch him in the box he is electric. Its down to knowing where to move in relation to the ball and defenders as well as great acceleration.

To say scoring goals is not an intrinsic quality of a player feels wrong given it is an outcome whic relies pretty heavily on the intrinsic qualities of a player

The problem is if you are playing a front 2 then you need Kane and Son to be fit and ready every game. We have no cover and Scarlett clearly isn’t ready.

Defence: defence we have Rodon, Romero, Tanganga, Dier and Sanchez which can cover the
back 3. Nice to upgrade but do have players

Wing backs: Emerson and possibly Bergwijn on the right with Sess, Regulion on the left, we are fine.

Midfield/wing: Ndombele, Skipp, Lo Celso, Winks, Hojbjerg, Dele, Lucas, Bergwijn. We do need at least one other midfielder.

Attack: just Kane and Son.

Attack is the are we have least depth so little competition or cover for injuries.
I wouldn't dispute that we need another high quality attacking player at all, no doubt we do. And I'll be delighted if we sign Vlahovic. Just looking at the balance of our squad I'm not sure it's the best way to spend 70m (unless Kane is out the door in the next 12 months). We have plenty of bodies for every position (excepting striker) but not too many of them are good enough to start for a top 4 side, not mind a side that wants to win trophies. I'm sure Conte will learn plenty in the next few months, about which players he'll be able to improve and those he'll need to replace.

Ok, sell me on my mistakes. Don't worry, though, you won't be the first to have a problem accepting it. It's hard to break from conventional wisdom.

Ok, where do players go that score goals? Do they go to Burnley or do they go to Real Madrid? In which team do you think they have a better chance of continuing their goal scoring efforts? And take Harry Kane, will he score more at City or with us? And would that answer be based on Harry's instrinsic qualities or something else?
Certain players get accused of only scoring tap ins but this ignores the movement, thought and sharpness needed to be a top quality goalscorer.
Many players have this but they don't have the team behind them to utilize it. And that's how diamonds are picked up...judging a players qualities and not by the goals. I would argue Harry's movement is shit just like the rest of our attack. Way too static. And he resists leaving the D and making near post runs now.
Sterling for example is derided as a tap in merchant with poor finishing but if you watch him in the box he is electric. Its down to knowing where to move in relation to the ball and defenders as well as great acceleration.
He really does have poor finishing. I thought it was improving but it has plateaued. Yes, his movement is very good though.

Goals are a result of a player's intrinsic qualities and the teamwork. But so many players have those basic qualities and most goals are of the tapin variety. I posted Kane's goals from last season's golden boot efforts and most were absolute friggin tapins where any CF would have handled it. And this is why they are overrated. People think every goal they score is a 30 yard screamer but it isn't.

And I'm not the only one that doesn't rate the position. Pep and Klopp are looking for other things as well. People thought Benzema couldn't score a few years ago. Guess what? He can, a lot. And he can also do so much more that you can expect game in game out.

I wonder if Conte has said he's not against 2nd or 3rd choice players as long as he see's something in them he can work with.
I almost feels like that could be the happy medium with tight arse Levy and control freak Conte.

Agree with this, I'd be delighted if we got Vlahovic in Jan - esp if he can play in the Conf League, but if it's 60M + I'd almost rather see it spent on an Eriksen replacement or a LCB?

Please tell me nobody actually said that

IF We're looking for a home grown back up Keeper this lad is really impressing for Ireland only 19

this save last night was one of the best I've ever seen .

also his distribution with his feet is incredible, models himself on Ederson.

**Only problem is he's owned by City.........

Actually watching that video of his goals last season, most of them are penalties and 6-yard-box tap-ins, with the very vast majority of the goals (even from further out) being the result of someone else supplying him. I'm not necessarily saying that doesn't make him a great striker etc - Lineker made a great career of little more than finishing in some people's opinion - but does it suggest that he is all about finishing and very little else, and if so, is that ok for us?

If you compare to Kane, over the years there have been loads of goals where he has got a yard on the man in front of him before smacking one in the corner - I don't see any of those goals in that Vlahovic video, he never has to beat a man... But perhaps if you're always in the right place at the right time, you don't need to beat a man (or have effectively already done so off the ball by finding the space)... ??? :/
1.44 sec control skill poise and a frankly ridiculously classy finish from out side the box. Also seen him clip/ bend a few worldie free kicks( hope to see him taking all ours from out side the box).

But let's say we look at the assets you critique a penalty box striker who can stay central as Son breaks wide whilst Kane goes quater back, one who can finish, sounds like heaven after Bergwijn and Moura. The bloke can head is a horrible physical athletic unit. Frankly he is a dream for the profile of our squad even if he was as limited as your assessment which I don't think he is. I think had he been occupying VVD in the ECL final over a half fit Kane we'd have been better. We need options. These days at ECl level that costs money.

Thing is Kane may not be here in 1-2 seasons, getting someone of Vlahovic’s quality means we can bed him in early and not have him need to be perfect straight away.

Kane and Son are both close to 30 we need to be fixing the attack and not waiting for it all to go wrong like we did when we lost Dembele, Verts and Eriksen. To me Vlahovic and Brozovic would be the perfect Jan signings but that’s just my view, I get we all look at things with different eyes.
