By Kicker he was rated as the 13th best CD in the Bundesliga after a half-played season (above, f.ex., Joško Gvardiol, Mats Hummel)

Every six months, Kicker releases a ranking of the best players in the Bundesliga as well as the best German players abroad, dividing them into a number of categories.

The German football magazine recently released their winter rankings based on the performances in the first half of the 2021/22 season.

Below, you'll find the centre-back rankings.

World Class:
None.

International Class:
1. Nico Schlotterbeck, Freiburg
2. Niklas Süle, Bayern

National class:
3. Manuel Akanji, Dortmund
4. Dayot Upamecano, Bayern
5. Moussa Nikahaté, Mainz
6. Evan Ndicka, Frankfurt
7. Philipp Lienhart, Freiburg
8. Lucas Hernandez, Bayern
9. Kevin Vogt, Hoffenheim
10. Stefan Bell, Mainz

Are we really saying we should be going for the 13th best centre half in german football to improve us?

People deny the Mandela Effect.

Yet, we're in a world/timeline where Juventus are reportedly keen on one of our reserve CB's, when nearly every poster on this board has CB, at the top end of their list of most needed upgrades...

You're a tiresome bore sometimes.

You're clearly struggling... I've not questioned the credibility of the content of the article..... I took it on face value; in goof faith for the purposes of our discussion.

What I'm establishing is that the content doesn't vindicate you. I've explained how/why at least twice, so perhaps revisit as required.
You did, you said the evidence is not fit for purpose.
I only mentioned him in a relevant context..... You're the one that drifted off about players that had no contextual relevance.
So you talk about VDV and it's relevant but when I talk about him it's drifting?
I'm having an exchange with you though
But you're not..... You've stated it as green that you would buy him and yet that we inevitably won't buy him cos we don't buy expensive defenders 'cos Levy'.

Romero - 50m
Dav - 40m
Sess / Emerson / Reg = circa 30m.
Yes I would buy him, I also didn't say that we haven't bought expensive defenders in the past, we didn't buy those players in one season, did we? We bought Emerson because Doc (a cheaper option) has been disastrous, now we have to get rid, that's what happen when you go with someone just because they're cheap and don't do due diligence.
Maybe the club don't see him as a 50m player cos injury concerns/Conte/other?

The article YOU chose to riff off of doesn't specify.

We come full circle.

Your 2 x OG claims have not been vindicated.
Maybe they do or maybe they aren't prepared to splash the money to challenge the other top 3.

1. Agree, but you can't nurture or improve someone who is injured. And you don't pay £50m for someone with Lamptey's recent injury record.
As I said you have the medical team look him over before deciding to pay, if there are problems then don't buy at all, not at 50 or 20 million.
2. Lamptey signing this Jan isn't the difference maker for top 4, especially given your point that he will be nurtured by Conte. It takes time.
How do you know he won't make difference to getting top four, he's better than Doc right? So that's already improving the side
3. Is Lamptey really the statement signing...? I don't see it.

I simply don't agree £50m is the going rate for a player like Lamptey. Is he good? Yeah, looks it, but £50m got City Cancelo (factoring in Danilo part exchange). It is a lot of money.
We would be paying for potential, which, when twinned with that injury record doesnt justify the fee in my eyes.
He's a signing, more need to come with it but it's a start, like I said if we can get better for cheaper lets do it but as I've been saying Traore does not fit that description, he's no Cancelo.

Not sure why I keep coming back to this forum as I doubt we will be signing anyone. Jan windows are always a letdown. Reason: hard to improve on what we have, no decent player will be available, they will cost too much if they are, Levy is a tight cunt

Can we get digne on loan with option to buy. Can he play lcb/fb/LWB?
Davies is ok with 3 really is not physical or quick enough. I’ve seen digne play last season and he does motor down the flank.
Would be a good addition and proven PL experience.
