Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Got nothing to do with Levy AFAIC.....

Could just as easily have Ronald McDonald as Chairman...... I'll pass initial judgement a window once it shuts. Then I'll review my thoughts on those players once they've had a chance to make an impact.

From there; I'd already long stated Summer 2022(*) is a line-in the sand in terms of judging any broader notion of our spending-based ambitions.

(*formerly Summer 2021.... 2 summers after stadium opened, but Covid delayed any perceivable income boost on that front.)

Regardless; I'll be thoroughly disappointed if we haven't found a way to boost our top 4 hopes by Monday.

See, I don't disagree with the point you are making here, this is valid, I just don't like when people constantly move the goalposts for what we should consider failure.

Summer 2022 should be the line in the sand, if we haven't made huge improvments to the squad at that point then I don't see how Levy or ENIC can have any more excuses, it shouldn't fall on the DOF either because ultimately, he was hired by the chairman, therefore, the failure should be on Levy's shoulders, I don't want any BOJO buck passing from Levy.

I do however disagree it has nothing to do with Levy, I think he holds us back as a chairman, he likes the thrill of the deal too much and doesn't allow people to do their jobs, he's a megalomaniac imo, obviously this paragraph is all opinion on my part though, I could be wrong.

As for the bolded, you and me both, this is a prime opportunity to seize, Conte has worked wonders for us but this squad isn't strong enough for a top four push without signings this window imo.

Believe me or not, but I have gotten my hands on the official list of requests that Daniel Levy handed over to Joe Lewis this January:

Ah the 20 years memory .... can you please list the players we low-balled that Barca then signed.
Would you want Traore on loan? paying Wolves a loan fee, paying his salary, then having to pay another 30m in the summer .... seriously is that a good deal for us?
He'd likely be another squad packing failure - haven't we got enough of them already?
If we'd signed Traore for a knock down fee on deadline day you'd have been all over it like a fly over shit claiming what a fantastic signing it was and what an astounding piece of by brinkmanship "Don Levy"

Don't even bother lying to claim otherwise. We can all see through your shite now, matey, just as we can see through Levy's

Only time I care about other clubs transfers is when we are playing them or when I see a club like Villa showing ambition and doing shrewd bits that we should be doing.
With that firmly in mind I don't give a fuck about Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpools business, they are in a lot less immediate need than we are.

Why you bringing "minutia" into all this?

(Afterall, other clubs weren't in any way central to my point)

We are a declining force due to gross mismanagement, negligence and the continued penny pinching the cheapest available option rather than the best available option. With the key word being available.

Was Romero "the cheapest available"?
Reguillon?
Gil?
Sessengon?
Ndombele?
Lo Celseo?
Sanchez?
Sissoko?
Lamela?
Soldado?

All circa £30m or more over the last 7/8 years........ Not one of them was the "cheapest available".

(Whether you rate them is irrelevant....)

By the same token is the £15m-£25m bracket somehow beneath us now too? ..........I mean that would render the now much mourned Traore beneath us anyway, so who'd give a fuck about him, right?

You have to go back a long time to find a Spurs squad in such a state of disrepair as this one

When Poch took over.

3 things.

1. “I hate it when people move the goalposts, but we can’t judge until the summer” is a hilarious contradiction.

2. On where the goalposts are for failure, we’re through the goal, out the back of the stand and halfway to Hertfordshire on the A10.

3. To again quote Conte directly: “To think this can be fixed in one transfer market is not realistic, but there has to be a place to start. Even if it is not the best opportunity, we need to do something.”

I'll be honest, I hadn't heard of Diaz before we went after him (allegedly). Stat sheet and video highlights sure look impressive. But what really...REAAAAAALLLLLY...matters to me and what should really matter to all of you is, what sort of character is he? Is he gonna fight for the shirt like a madman day in day out, or is he gonna diva his way through his big contract and crumble whenever the going gets tough? Also, does he share his compatriot Davinson's friggin habit for a big brainfart each & every game...or has actually got football IQ?

Substance over style, please. We saw what happened when we go the wrong way about it...

I have watched him play a lot for Colombia. He goes all out. No lack of effort ever.

Oh trust me, I am judging from this window, if Levy fails to get anybody in this window then it's a complete failure, the manager has said he wants players in, that's really all there is to it.

What I am saying is, if we don't get a squad overhaul in the summer that makes us truly competitive then Levy has nowhere left to hide, seriously, that will be it for many, not just the people like me who already want him gone.

I think even neutrals, fence sitters or people who like him as a chairman will have a change of tune at that point because there really is no excuses left.

Lets start at the beginning again....

You said you were "shocked" that there had not been "offers" for the players you listed.

I asked you how you'd ensure there WERE offers/buyers....... You've failed to answer this.

By all means mourn the fact that these players are clogging up the wage bill, but loaning them out to clubs that can't afford to buy nor pay them will get us nowhere in the longer term.

Let's not start a straw-man, eh.....

Sending them out on loan so that they can get minutes and put themselves in the shop window is exactly how they get sold in the long term.
