As soon as our interest in Diaz was made public there was always a chance Liverpool would make their move.

He’ll end up there. More ambitious club, in the champions league and fighting for the title.

Catch 22 though.

Not sure how we overcome such things

They are a bigger club, they are also 2nd in the PL and have a fantastic manager.

There are some occasions when I might say it's 100% us but if all true here what can we realistically do?

And Conte having been at Chelsea would understand if not like it.

If rumours are correct and Diaz wants Liverpool but is going for 37.5, and Traore goes to Barca on loan, then probably the issue’s the other clubs, not the money ENIC are offering? (And who would pay 30m for Traore? really?)

We’ve seen from Kane’s antics that elite footballers are clearly a shallow lot, interested in trinkets more than building clubs and genuinely enjoying the battle on the pitch.

Perhaps the only way is to go full mercenary like earth Shitty days and pay crazy wages - but with the mess that Tanguy has created, I’d be amazed if we do that.

Bit of a rock and a hard place.

Certainly makes me think less of footballers: personally, I’d go to the nicest environment - best training ground, best stadium, best city (ie, not Dippers or Newcastle).

Oh, well - it’s a few years until the Prem is a two/ three team league like Spain and Italy.

Another wasted window. We wait until late to make a move for a genuine top target and fail.

Genuinely fear we’re going to sign one midfielder and that’s it.

Doesn’t seem to be the money, but the club.

We’re going to have to rely on Conte rejuvenating older players, aren’t we?

Catch-22 - could probably appeal more in CL, but probably need a couple of reinforcements to get into CL.

Arse.

Has he chosen Liverpool? Or had David Ornstein said it. May well be true but Ornstein has about as many contacts in football as that potato in the cupboard that you forget about until one day you find it’s spawned 4 new potatoes.

Feels a bit like Mane all over again. Although then we were finishing above them and had champions league football, they just offered more wages. I expect now it will be Amrabat and someone like Morota both on loan with maybe a Djed Spence signed to join us in the summer. None will be good enough for the first team. Its just to look like we',re doing something.

I just think us or Liverpool for most players and it's Liverpool.

I am all for criticism if it's justified.

The key is to not put all eggs in one basket and if we did actually want the bloke it does at least suggest we are veering back towards quality signings.

We need to be securing the signings of up and coming players as best we can for now I feel.

Or you could act quickly, offer something acceptable and either get the deal done or at least so far down the line the player is committed.
