Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So, Dembele and Diaz were this windows “we tried” targets

Levy
Why bother shelling out big money when he can keep fans happy with minimal activity. Again, wind back to when Conte was appointed would fans have really been happy with the incomings and giving it a 7 or 8 out of 10? Still 1 striker, no creativity in central midfield at all, really poor right wing backs, still only Davies as a left centre back option. Not even half of that was going to happen in January but i feel we've just skirted around the edges of the squad.

I have faced the fact again that Spurs fans are moaning everywhere they go and live in their own bubble.

We signed 2 real players ant we let go 4 players.

4 players that Conte didn't even use properly in the last 5 games, excluding Morecambe. And they still say that we didn't replace them. Well, you don't replace waste of space. Obviously, we need depth, but lets see what our rivals did in the transfer window.

Man United – no signings. They need defensive midfielder badly, but guess what, they bottled it.
Woolwich – no signings. Fans of theirs are furious, because they need a central midfielder and a forward (Lacazette, Nketiah lol) badly, but guess what, they bottled it.
West Ham – no signings. I don't get how Hammers managed to not sign anyone. They are gonna be killed with one forward (Antonio) and Europa League coming up. There were some rumours about West Ham, but guess what, they bottled it.

We managed to get 2 talented players. It's not guaranteed that they will be a success, but at least the deals were smart.

Just put things into perspective. January transfer window – 7/10. Not great, not terrible. RWB and Forward position is worrying, but summer will be big.

5.5 out of 10 window.

Good that we got rid of the attitudes & egos around the lodge.
Cautiously optimistic about the two we've brought in
Still lots of problem areas in the team particularly at wing back on both sides

Couple more and it would have been a good window

We're not 'massively outplaying' Woolwich. Conte is a brilliant manager, far better than Arteta, who is getting a better tune out of lesser players, and the fact Kane is better than any player in either squad and has recently had an upturn. Son is also better than any Woolwich player.

Also, telling people not to join unless they share your exact opinion on the strength of our squad is laughable. Don't be such a moronic tribalist, you can support Spurs and not think the sun shines out of our squads arsehole. You seem ridiculously optimistic about this squad, to the point of pure delusion, so maybe you should consider whether your inherent bias is coming in to play.
This whole conversation started because someone said Woolwich have a far superior squad to spurs. They don't. It's close to even. End of.

Go ask neutrals who they'd prefer to have out of Tierney and Reguilon. Or who they'd rather have between Tomiyasu and Emerson. How many neutrals fans do you think take Romero and Dier over Gabriel and Ben White?

Almost none. Let's face reality here.

Tierney is crap.

IF neutrals want him over Reguilon they are morons.

Bit like ours most of those weren’t doing much for the club but unlike us they bought fuck all thankfully.

Greenwood is the exception in term of use, he has amazing talent and should have been United’s next elite player, one of the best strikers in the league potentially. Greenwood being a huge dickhead aside that is a huge blow to United in terms of their squad. Ronaldo and Cavani are brilliant but old and not suited to high energy game and Rashford is average.
Aubameyang is Woolwichs joint second top scorer in all competitions this season. Frozen out or not... It leaves a bit of a hole.

Saying Woolwich have a "significantly better team than us" is just wrong. Why do we go 3 points above them if we win our game in hand if that's the case?
Because we have a better manager. And also a tougher mentality this season than them- we've won many tight games even when below par. Meanwhile Woolwich try and postpone games, lose their minds and get down to 10 men, etc. when things get tough.

I wouldn't have Partey and Xhaka over Skippy, Hobby or Benty
Partey has recently improved his level closer to his Atletico days; Xhaka I agree is a laughing stock.

Romero and Dier better than both their CBs
Comparing defences is difficult, I think individually they have the edge- but Conte's formation means we are more solid.

Kane and Son > all their attackers
Of course; Kane and Son elite level. But our problem is they're our only 2 reliable goalscorers. And we don't have anyone creative either. Woolwich definitely have more goalscorers and creative players.

If Kane and Son get injured we're in real trouble in terms of goals; but Woolwich aren't that reliant on a select few.

I think the new guys will be decent. "Steady Eddy" type players. We'll see more rotation and in game changing now.
The group is smaller and we're out of 2 of 4 competitions. This means Conte can really focus on training with the players he wants to actually use. He won't have to keep trying to get minutes out of players he doesn't want in his team.

Hopefully GLC and TND go permanently and we can actually go to the market in the summer without the need to clear the decks first.

Not a brilliant window by any stretch, but getting bad eggs out of the squad is a start.

Agreed. In fact, with Conte and Kane/Son at top form, I give us the edge overall. Less balanced, less enjoyable to watch team but with more difference makers. I do think a top manager would have them sitting comfortably top four currently though, Arteta is poor.

Strange one I agree. Just come here as well. Wonder what reasons are for sending him out on loan rather than keep him. If someone thinks his not good enough then there should surely be sackings!
He was loaned out for game time. The only confusing thing is why they chose la Liga when they know he's had success there before but that may have been the only option. I think England might have helped him more.

It is not confusing why he was loaned out. Getting 5 minutes every other game is not helpful. He needs 60+ per game.

You're whining about the lack of big name signings and shitting all over the squad when they are literally at this point massively outplaying Woolwich. I am not being a tribalist to call you out for crying like an idiot on Talksport because real life isn't FIFA and ignoring that our squad gets usually underrated by most of the footballing world.

The reality is we were playing better before these two signings, and now that we have cleared out three players who were getting no minutes, brought in two players Conte wants to play, and rest of the squad are continuing to grow into the system, then yes, I am quite optimistic. A squad committed to a plan, with people who are talented, even if not recognized, is a much better idea than a bunch of big names in FIFA who are playing to a worse collection of ideas.
