Transfers January 2023 Transfer Thread. The Big One

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The window has been completely underwhelming imo.....no defensive changes...no midfield changes...just a RWB and some winger who appeared suddenly out of nowhere because he's a Levy bargain basement barrel scraping...still, I've supported Spurs since the early sixties and for the last few years have had no expectations of our current owners...I'm numb to the whole business now...I won't expect top 4...or even 5....we're not going to really challenge for the CL....we might get lucky with the FA cup but lucky is the operative word because we don't have the required quality throughout the squad to make it on merit.
Conference, here we come....

Doesn't sound like you've ever head of Porro or Danjuma before this window.

Has any other club in the top 4 running signed a player addresses their biggest weakness that goes right into their starting lineup?

Sure, that is equally stupid

(See bottom)

The 'oh its loan again' bit is definitely an unnecessary whine especially if there is an obligation to buy. It is a little more relevant when we know the loan player is a complete random (eg Carlos Vinicius, Gedson, etc) who no one believe is here for the long run and just a stop gap to placate a manager /fans.

Not really. A straight fwd 6 month loan is a perfectly viable premise. You can just be looking to cover short-term injury (see Gedson) or straddle a situ until the summer.

Vinicius was simply 'try before you buy'..... And that's fine too. He just didn't show enough so we didn't sign him.... That's entirely the point.

The insistence of people to find some angle from which to denigrate virtually everything we do is tiresome (being polite).

People that dismiss signings on the basis of them being merely an "option" are idiots..... Why? See Ndombele, GLC and a list of other duds. If they're good we sign then, if they're shit we give them back... It's a perfect scenario; but some people have lost the plot and are only interested in the bullshit.

Almost all of us have at some point or another been involved in the Enic in or out intenet debates though.

Indeed; as it's a 'current affair'.... But it has 'rent free'-status in the heads of some.

The idea that Porro suddenly isn't a proper signing is just the latest evidence of that....... The fact that the financials of the deal seem to be of more interest to some that at the same time call others 'spreadsheet fans' is a joke beyond irony! .....That even though we got a top target, it is being seen as an opportunity to goad others is fucking sad.

It will be funny when the double counters will talk about Kulusevski as a new signing when we turn that loan to permanent. "Like a new signing"

Meh...... Using your words; you're being "stupid".

I see a lot of over the top/ridiculous takes when it comes to Spurs, but fuck me if this doesn't scream of propaganda.

Sporting needed the money to show up in their next lot of accounts, and only one man in the ENTIRE WORLD could come up with the ingenious plan to...

Make it an initial loan so that they get the fee later on...

:levywhoa:

Hard to believe that nobody else could/would have done that.

It's extremely damning as to the state of our squad that pretty much every player we want rid of is just about a loan.

Out on loan
Rodon
GLC
Winks
Reguillon
TND
Doherty
Gil

Still yet to shift Moura, Sanchez, and need to move on Dier, Davies, Tanganga etc and upgrade.

I suspect in the coming 2-3 seasons our net spend will have to be quite high just because we don't really have any assets to let go. Even if we sold Kane in the summer, he's not going to command a mega-fee like he would have 2 years before.
I think we will still ask around 100m and one club will pay it like they always do
Man Utd

We have a better team than we had last year and even the beginning of this year. If we can’t get 4th in a league weaker than we were last year than Conte is a big fraud.

Chelsea have spent over 500 million and are awful.

We could spend a billion and some of you “fans” would be like “just not ambitious enough”
This time last year. Son hadn't fallen off a cliff, Lloris had 1 clanger a season and made regular outstanding saves, Dier was playing out of his skin instead of his mind, even Doc was playing pretty well with Reguillon or Sess opposite.

A lot of things have gone to pot since.

I bet Chelsea are better at playing "where's the money" with the tax man and regulators.

It is a loan with an obligation to buy per the reports that I have seen.

Sporting want the full transfer to happen in June for bookkeeping reasons (probably don't need to pay as much to City). So thus it is a loan with an obligation.
That's a shame. I'd rather take loan with an option to buy in case we don't stick with Conte. Can't see Porro being that great a fit without a back 5 and I'd hate for our next manager search to be limited to managers that use wingbacks.

Gvardiol has been spotted in London

Our entire squad is being built around playing with a back 3/5.

Udogie, Porro, Perisic, even players like Dier, Romero etc. play better in a back 3 than in a back 4.
