Centre back that can play either side, creative centre midfield, wide forward, centre forward all pressing needs and they need to be ready made first team level not squad fodder. Really need to be targetting at least 2 of those in January.

A fast CB is the biggie..... Fucking huge.

a top striker or winger than can finish is an even bigger need. At least we have a top defensive pair in VDV and Romero. In attack we have no one that is world class, and the wingers are not even close to world class.

Even if we bought no one in attack and just held on to Kane we'd probably be a dozen points better off. We don't even have to get to depth players to watch our attackers stinking out the place.

Expecting to sign a "world class" ST(*) in January is not realistic though. Besides January being what it is; for the same reason it was probably out of reach last summer too....... We don't currently have a team that will endear itself to a WC ST atm. That has to be part of the goal this season; to make ourselves a more appealing project.

(*Assuming world class to mean one of the best 3-5 in the world....... Kane, Mbappe, Haaland & Lewandowski.... Who rounds out the 5?)

I say about the CB cos it absolute SHOULD be obtainable and secondly it's pivotal to the way we play....... And taking for granted that VDV will be back on schedule and without relapse is incredibly shaky ground upon which to base the second half of our season.

Do we need attacking improvements? 100% , but unless we can score the right player then we're just adding to already substantial list of attacking players that people are disenfranchised with.

Also Lyon are in desperate financial straights. They've had restrictions put on them by the DNCG (French Financial regulatory body) after posting heavy losses post covid of about 300m+.

Update (today)

I doubt that van de Ven will be fully ready to go until February/March, as in, back to where he was before his injury. The last two months of the season is probably the worst case scenario

Could Romero and Davies play every game until March? Hmmm.....

Definitely need to start pulling the trigger on a couple of transfers for the start of next month.
A CB and a winger/attacker need to be first through the door.

We really shoud have announced our next CB signing in this month. So he's ready to go first thing in january. I would be really pissed if we like Porro negotionated a whole month.

Raya was a top buy as well and Vicario was the cheap option.
It doesn't help that people insist on rating a buy before they have even kicked a ball, ultimately you can't rate a purchase until much further down the line, and in full really not until their spell at Spurs is over, and then you can also take into account return on investment and such things.

Take VDV as a case study, time of purchase not viewed as a top buy, 10 games in all of a sudden many would call him a top buy, ff 6 months and maybe he's not fully right following injury, maybe his form has dipped, ff 3 years maybe he never got back to his initial level and has been loaned out and then sold at a loss, maybe he came back stronger and got an £80m move to Madrid...

Only at the end can you say who was a top buy or not.

Which is why I can never be arsed to rate a trf window.
