I would say dude the old UEFA was harder. For many years the European cup would only be league winners and 2/3/4 would be in the UEFA.
I would say the average was far higher as there were less shitfuck teams.

I should have said ‘potentially harder than the old UEFA cup’, but yeah there’s a lot of dross in the early rounds (after they’ve knocked out the likes of West Ham).

That's not the point being made though is it.

If we played well under Jose and lost the game I would be the first person on here to give it a thumbs up. The point is were are getting our arses handed to us AND playing shit football. I want to see signs of attractive football, even if we lose or draw. I can support this.

Brighton & Newcastle weren't attractive football to me.... Neither was the horror capitulation at home to Bayern.

It gives confidence that there is some coaching going on, a plan/system that the players are responding to.

The players appeared to lack confidence and faith in the end.... The system would seem to have dried up and begun to crumble away. We were fragile and looked disenfranchised. The bloody-minded persistence with the diamond wasn't something that engendered confidence in me nor seemingly the players.

My retort isn't a response to your opinion on Jose; it is comment reflecting on the lack of insight displayed by the quote I cited.

Even on a final he parked the bus against u21 ajax kids and fluked his way via long balls to Fellaini.

The UEFA final? The one he ended up winning and getting Man U back in the Champions League with? Against a team that were literally seconds away from being in the Champions League final the following year? The team who sold assets they had that year to the likes of Tottenham, Juventus, Roma, Chelsea & Barcelona? With others still at the club being linked to Real Madrid (Van De Beek) & Barcelona (Onana)?

For too long I heard people say we place nice football but it was time we started winning. Seems like either way some people can't win then.

But you only qualify to play in it if you aren't good enough (or don't pick up yellow cards) to qualify for the Champions League. Or if you FAIL to get into the knockout phase of the CL. It's fundamentally flawed comp.

Yes, it does now have a big prize at the end of the rainbow with CL qualification, but that too is proof that it's a consolation, win it and you are awarded the right to play in the big one you weren't good enough to play in.

There's also a strong argument that it's better off for clubs to not even qualify for it and focus on the League, doubt Leicester would have won the Lague had they been competing in it, and doubt they would be where they are now if they were in it. Same too of Chelsea under Conte, doubt they would have won the league that year.

It's flawed.

Yes it’s flawed but it’s also made up of domestic cup winners, so effectively doubling as the old Cup Winners Cup. In theory it could include 8 current title winners too.

The biggest problem is how drawn out it is. They should drop the group stages that only exist to include fictitious countries rumoured to be orbiting Jupiter.

Mate, I know this! (He was here five years and you bring up a handful of games). Things weren't going well, something need to give. This ISN'T the point being made.

Let's reset the clock:
In Poch's first season we had a bunch of iffy results but there were clearly visible green shoots of a system emerging. Even after the last-minute Villa game, a game acknowledge even by Poch himself as a defining victory that kept him in a job, we still weren't completly clicking but more and more fans started to see what was going on, whether we won drawn or lost. It was clear there was an identity being formed, it was clear what that identity was. It's what we all got swept up into. All this whilst still not getting a win.

MindBlown, why not tell everyone you used to post on Glory Glory as Afan and got outed as a Goon.

Nope thought not
Unlike you, I have never posted on any forum other than TFC

Unlike you, I never pretend to have been at WHL over 1000 times. Even a century old Mick Cooper Mick Cooper would never make such a claim.
