Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I really hope that will be the case from here on in! Lo Celso has show he’s not scared to get stuck in - he and N’Dombele could be pretty impressive. What’s GLC’s long-range passing like? I don’t really recall having seen much?
I don't know mate. From what I've read he's a versatile player by playing as an AM and as a CM (although not too often), sure those that know him better will inform.

I like the thinking. Hopeful it was an extraordinary tactic against an exceptional opponent. Might see similar against City, but I’m hopeful we’ll have the second-half team (post-sub), against Boro’.

but what do I know?
HArd to tell what to expect with City. I think their eggs will be well and truly put into the CL, this might give us a fighting chance. That said, it's always important to beat a so-called top 6 opponent, so maybe that's all they need as motivation???

This. Erikssen has no right starting ahead of either GLC or N’Dombele. CE offered us nothing today in either defence or attack...
We are still a fucked side without a midfield (i.e no Ndombele), so Jose still needs to find a solution for this and that's a tough ask but what I've read about Gio he can also add a bit in midfield too (I hold my hands up if I've got this wrong about his positions he can play).

I love the notion that a team that amassed 25 points from 24 games a priority should be style play and that this should be evident with any manager with this group at this time with everything that has transpired before. We have had relegation form in the league for majority of 2019 and people honestly believe that this will be reversed in a matter of weeks with a team that was 14 th in the league, riddled with injuries and whose new signings have had zero impact on the first team? You have to extortionately naive to expect that.

Redknapp stunk the place out for his first 6 months here - it wasn’t until the Hull game that things turned. That’s what happens when you inherit a team that has completely collapsed like that. The football the following season compared to his first season was a complete contrast - it was the same manager so why was their a difference? Why were Liverpool beaten regularly by mediocre sides in Klopps first few seasons but are unbeaten in the league now? Is he that much of a better manager than he is was in previous seasons - really, how so?

The club is clearly going through a transitional cycle - the elite team we had has been broken up/matured and as result this is the typical outcome . Poch had it at its height and won nothing with it and got quickly found out when he didn’t have such a team anymore. The time to judge Jose is next season when he has a window and preseason behind him not when walks into such a mess. The talk of style of play is quite frankly is embarrassing given the circumstance
Agree with everything except last sentence - I get why ST holders want to see something worth watching for their money. Those of us who are armchair fans, probably have no right to judge those who pay top-prices for turgid football.

havng said that, I’ve said elsewhere that I really enjoyed today’s game in a perverse way.

Hello everybody,
I'm a recent Tottenham supporter - Mourinho fan here.
I'd just like to say that today for the first time I saw the hand of Mourinho in this team - and I don't mean just parking the bus. There was defensive organization, fighting spirit and a clear idea of how to hurt the opposition. Even with a lot of non ideal options - a debut in center back (who did very well), the wing backs (Rose and Aurier) that don't make any top team in the league and a half player in Eriksen. There was a plan, and the players respected it.
So we agree that we are living difficult times - and I can imagine after 5 years with Poch how difficult the transition must be -, but today was a beginning.
Sorry about my bad english. COYS

I hope we can all keep our patience with Mourinho. He’s inherited a squad with multiple issues. These have been building over several years and will be hard to shake off soon. It’s not like Sherwood, who was able to start some sort of improvement after replacing AVB.

There just seems to be a massive attitude problem in the squad. Plus injuries and declining quality.

I’ve written off this season. It’s little more than an opportunity for Mourinho to sort the men from the boys, then hopefully oversee a massive overhaul (if Levy lets him).

I don't know mate.

But I am worried about the direction of the club. The worry is linked to the style of football that we will play under Jose. It's not about Poch (although I do think we should have stuck with him and backed him). BUT there was always an argument to replace him, I totally get that but we could have gone with a manager that could continue and evolve us further. I've listed a bunch of managers that we could have gone for in the previous post. As every game goes by I don't get what we are, we don't have an identity. (I enjoyed how we played in the second half, I think Jose got it all wrong in the first for playing Eriksen in a game where he wanted us to sit deep and park the bus, badly.
Jose didn't get it wrong, he got it spot on, the game is 90 minutes, if we had started with Le Celso and Lamela, and had Dele and Erikssen on the bench, do you really think those two coming on as subs would have any impact our squad is not deep enough.

Let Lamela get up to speed and then we can start to make in roads, come the end of the month, Erikssen will be phased out the team.

The idea of playing Erikssen was to see if we could of load in this window and make a little dough.Jose has already put the gauntlet to Dele, and it's up to Dele to up his game, as i have a feeling he will be gone in the summer.

What was good at today was having Tanganga in there and signing up Toby, with Davies coming back means we can play any of the four, Tanganga,Davies,Sanchez and toby as a back three, with Sess and Aurier on the flanks in the 3-4-3 formation we will eventually end up playing.

With Ndombele pulling the strings and dictating play in midfield alongside another.

The front three will most likely be either one sitting behind two or two widemen besides Kane.

Let's say hypothetically we get Gedson and Semedo in this window, come summer we could sell Moura,Dele,Sissoko,Dier and Rose without weakening the team or even just Gedson, who can also play both full back postiions if we revert to 4 at the back and on the right of midfield, and if we can get a striker on loan or permanent, thus generating funds for Mourinho to make one or two summer signings.

You have to look at the bigger picture, personally i would be happy if we finish fifth or sixth this season, because being in the Europa league next season would give us a chance to field an few youngster and fringe players and build for the future.

For example we could use Winks and Skipp in the early stages of the competion, with Parrot getting minutes.

Europa League would be a godsend for many of our young players.

I haven’t been the biggest fan of how he deploys the squad, but I do prefer his media displays over Poch. He is way more open and allows us fans a chance to see into a bit more of the club.

I’m not even certain it will be then. We know how Levy operates in transfer windows. He won’t have all the players in and out early in the transfer window. The PL meet next month to see about changing the end of the transfer window again. If that happens we will start the season without all the players Mourinho wants.

Sure Mourinho will 100% have to have the team drilled to his tactics perfectly for the start of the season but I bet he doesn’t have all the players in and out that he wants.

It's really weird that we just can't find a manager who gets the tactics right and the selection right.
It’s ten games John, without Kane now too.
He’s still trying to find the best set up for this rabble and it seems he might be into something.

Yesterday relied on good passing for the counter. He trusted Dele and Eriksen to be able to make some accurate passes to Son and Moura but he underestimated just how SHIT they would be.

That’s baffling because they play like this every week, but to say the tactics and selection was wrong is off.
I’m annoyed he didn’t change it after half an hour though.

He will get bored/lose the plot well before any overhaul of the squad - it's now or never with him imo.
