Manager Jose Mourinho

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

In the timeframe and matches that Mourinho has had Poch had started playing younger players and we were on a 7 match unbeaten run culminating in the Chelsea 5-3. We could be inconsistant but it was obvious there was something there. We were poor for his first 3 months but you could see the players were fitter and on a good day the press working.

Poch never came in after the season had started. He had a pre season, he had a good look at what he had, the young players he introduced included a fit hungry kid called Harry Kane who literally blossomed all of a sudden. Remember Kane wasn't even getting much of a look in until he scored that free kick coming off the bench at Villa she he helped us win a game we were shocking in. The rest is history

At that time Poch never had an Amazon film crew filming his and his team's every move behind the scenes.

I don't see any comparisons tbh. Not saying I've liked everything Jose has done or the football he preaches but tbh how last season ended and how this season started I'm perfectly ok where we are because I understand it's a massive rebuilding process in very difficult times and both he and Poch haven't been helped by certain decisions made by the chairman

Jol and Redknapp came in at a similar time of the season and you could see something was happening. Results still inconsistant but we could play really well on a decent day, all within a shorter timeframe and similar amount of games. Both took on a weaker squad in a worse position as well.

He was left with a dying team though. Its gona take a while to get back on track.
Dying team is a bit of an over-reaction. Look how few of the team are over30. He was left with a team seemingly low in confidence, and with declining performances. Exactly what you'd expect of a team whose manager has been sacked and exactly what a new manager is brought in to turn around.

We've also played well on occasions. What fucked us up as our forwards getting injured before the Covid break.

What Jol and Redknapp had as an advantage was the style of football. We are not going to get that with Jose and that will blight his time here no matter the results

Agree on the style of football but not on the good performances. Anything decent was in the first 5 games, since we beat Burnley at home i dont think we've played well once. City was a great result but we were battered.

An Interesting insight. Which of the players do you think are in the shop window?

all is not lost for the season. I very much doubt we will get in to Europe, barring an extraordinary fuck up from Rodgers and his 'beautiful humans' at Leicester. Yet in a season of managerial change, injuries at important times of the season and a pandemic (which has and hasn't helped us, short and long term), finishing 5/6th ahead of Arse-nal, Wolves and Foxes would equate to at the very least a mentality shift and actually coming through on our moto 'Audere Est Facere' as it seems a vast majority think the season is over. It lies in the balance as we are just as close to 14th place as we are to 5th.

there are many players that should leave, and will.A refresh is needed yet the basis of that is there. personally i really hope Tanguy first of all actually gets some decent minutes and stays for a pre-season. Parrot was unfortunate to have surgery although how much time he would get is unknown as he is unproven. Sess seems like he needs a firework lit under his arse and we've got Winks playing out of position due to a lack of depth at DM.

I bloody hate supporting Tottenham sometimes but it's times like these that I can't smile without them as I'm quite excited to see what happens even if ENIC and Levy read this and feel nauseas.

Sissoko,Aurier,Moura,Ali and Sanchez.
Stevie wonder and Son are fine with lamela and possibly ryan covering.
Winks is good enough for squad depth, cup games and some european matches.

If ndombele doesn't pan out, i can see him, being moved on .
We need another central defender, tanganga can provide cover across the back line.

Ideally a deep lying playmaker in the mould of modric or xabi alonso, and a cdm to mop up[ideally two], with skipp getting some minutes in cup games, and early stages of european competitions.

We were scoring for fun at least.... Jose was forced back into his box by first losing Kane and then Sonny (+ Davies & Sissoko injuries further limiting his strategic approach). We've been full-on Jose-ball since we came back from lockdown.... Pragmatism had to, and indeed did come to the fore.

It started before he lost both of those, we were abject against Chelsea, Brighton, Norwich and Southampton with Kane and abject with Son thereafter. Injuries happen in football, we have coped without Kane well in the past. We only had both Kane and Son missing for 6 games.

It's a perfect storm; he was left fucking aroud with the line-up and formation by Davies absence (in part to cope with our RB issues as much as LB) before Harry even pulled up... Seen it before when the chips are down, Jose goes back into his box (think back to when we smashed his Chelsea 5-3; they were playing killer football until that result, but we exposed them.... After which he shut up shop and still ended up winning the league).....

Hardly fair - Poch had a preseason to work with and assess the players.

He also didn't have an enforced 3 month absence due to Covid.

I'll admit that at the moment it looks bleak, but unless you at least give people a chance then you're only shooting yourself in the foot.

If it's still the same turgid depressing football in October/November then I'll be less forgiving.

Exactly. I wasn't happy 3/4 months into Poch's reign but I didn't want him sacked. I was fed up with us changing managers every season and it not getting us anywhere. So I was more than happy to give him time to get his team together. I think that is why I am relaxed about Mourinho's start. Obviously I have doubts whether he's the long term choice, but let's see how he gets on.

We forget that Poch was an anomaly in our recent managerial history. All this talk of long term choice isn't really something we usually do as a club.

Poch last 21 league games = 24 points

Jose first 21 league games = 34 points

And that’s with key injuries and not playing well

Which also included beating West Ham away, losing to Liverpool,, beating Villa away with a last minute goal, beating Everton at home, losing to Chelsea, beating Burnley at home and drawing with Man Utd at home.

That because we had players that closed down a free kick 20 yards from goal - we've seen some kind of 'early signs for foundation of success' or 'drilling a defensive desire into the squad'

We should have seen such signs in November when he took over - not 8 months down the line -also hard to believe that's been miraculously drilled in 4 days after our defence collapsed away from home.

It was nice to see them all charge the ball down though - but it wasn't the first time this season.

When was this great run of form by your hero Poch?
And what’s it got to do with my post?

Ey?

I've, for the most part, supported Mourinho from the moment we got him.

Not sure I'd consider Pochettino my hero either - I've blasted his team selections, player favouritism and his cause of wasted youth development for years.

The point was Pochettino's first 21 games yielded the same amount of points as Mourinhos and was used as a positive. It CAN take time for a manager to get his point and his imprint across, especially when they haven't had a pre-season with the team and the team they are taking over were completely void of any confidence or were in a toxic environment (Poch with Sherwood etc)

There were calls for Pochettino to be sacked or for us to replace him throughout that first 12 months of his reign. Fast forward another 12 months and he could do no wrong.

I have no doubt Daniel Levy will look at that, as well as Mourinho's resumé, and give Mourinho the time - let's see what he can do when he's got the players in for his first pre-season with them, a clear idea of what formation he truly wants to play, gets rid of the players that aren't going to suit it and makes signings that hopefully HE wants.

Its easy to be better defensively when everyone is behind the ball, we've scored 5 (2 of which have been own goals) and conceded 4. Its not exactly stats that provide a ringing endorsement.
I think we conceded 18 goals in the first 12 PL games under Poch. We are conceding at 1 per game now. Much better I'd say. And we could have had more goals if the VAR referee didnt disallow anything and everything we did vs Sheff Utd and punished that idiot who elbowed Son in the face.

Its really much better than before.
