When we were in for him,a wolves mate gave us his verdict.Reckoned he was good going forward but couldn't defend.I think he was wrong, I have seen no real evidence he is good going forward...

As a link up player, no he's terrible he can't dribble, he can't cross, he's got no pace.

As a defender he doesn't track back and couldn't get into our team as a championship right back.

He does possess great attacking instincts though, probably because he originally trained as a striker in his youth (so I'm told). He's not the type to overlap and whip a cross in, he'll peel off into space created by wingers in the box and get on the end of something.

That's where he's actually good.

I'm willing to give him one more season under Nuno before writing him off completely. Last season being his first with us, first in a new system, COVID, Jose effect all that I am willing to write the season off and see what happens going forward.

He's in the Dier tier for me. If we can sell to bring in a better replacement, I'm for it. But I don't see it happening so I'm trying to stay positive and see what happens with them this season.

You must be the ultimate optimist

how does this geezer travel ? Rome has a lot going for it …. Particularly a manager who’s a specialist in signing pony right backs

get this pile of crap out stat

He had one bad first season. No need to write off every player after one year. Give him a chance to settle in and see what happens.

1 season remains 40 odd games

if there were issues settling from different environment or being young etc… then sure ok, added to that you have to see some promise …. Moments where you think sure there’s a player in there

I saw game after game of someone way out his depth

how many games is the requisite amount ?

you telling me to be kind makes not one iota of my opinion of this player

that is … he’s fuckin awful

He's the right back version of Dele.

Extremely specialised in a way that is only useful to the team if you set it up to cater for him at the expense of other areas.

He's shown some of the worst one on one defending I've ever seen at Spurs, gets skinned incredibly easily and often.

I think he will have his moments in an attacking sense but it's not worth it for what you lose at the back.

I think the best we can hope for is that Nuno gets more out of him and we can sell next summer for a decent fee and upgrade.

Snap. It was a weird season. Let's see if Nuno can kick him up the arse and get him firing on all four cylinders. In all honesty, I'm not holding out much hope but I'm ready to be suprised.

But you also shouldn't write a player off based on one bad year with Jose.

A wholesome sentiment, but I need only refer you back to my previous post.......

Some players are bought with the inescapable requirement that they hit the ground running.....

Time is simply not on Doherty's side.

Yes but some managers have a habit of ruining players for a season and Jose has a track record of doing that.

I actually like Jose but you can't deny the facts. So with that history and the fact Doherty has been good in the past, I'm willing to wait a year on my judgement of him. I don't think he should be our starter but I'd take him as a backup.
