Ex-Spurs Player Moussa Sissoko

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Sissoko is a good player. No doubt in my mind but I am not sure what he offers us in terms of power and surge that we don't have in Dier or Wanyama or what we could not have cultivated in Bentley, albeit a different type of player.

His was the kind of signing to excite but only because it seemed to serve a need but struggling to see where and now we are 2 games from exiting the very competition he stated as being the draw for him.

I don't know and like Janssen it is way too early to know for sure but there are some players who look good in small ponds and never quite stay afloat when transferred to greater depths.

The way I see it Sissoko covers quit a bit of ground, makes runs both on and off the ball and gets stuck in physically, he provides balance to the side by doing the dirty work and thus allowing creative players more freedom to express themselves. That's imo why he works out so well for France. The problem with him for us is that we don't need that type of player, because as you said we already have those in Dier and Wanyama, and to a certain extend also in Dembele and even Lamela, Eriksen, Kane and Janssen. All work hard, press hard, cover a lot of ground and with the exception of Eriksen also get stuck in physically.

Yep agreed so whilst it can be argued we might need his brand of footballer we could also say we needed a 3rd pacy striker just as much to give us the out ball option that lifts the need to always press just as much.

I get that as mere posters we are not living it day in day out but sometimes it seems so apparent.

Good. Because I don't think I could survive that walk in winter. Is Lamela likely to be fit or will we see Alli, Son and Eriksen?
Not had an update about lamela. I hope he's fit because this is the type of game where he will be very valuable to us. They don't like being pressed & of the four you mention, Lamela is the most terrier like & wont give their playmakers the time they need to play their game.

So what to do about Sissoko?

Poch must have seen something in him and where he envisaged he would play him to have persuaded Levy to have bought him

I don't know the terms of the deal but presumably the whole amount wouldn't have been paid up front

It's a bit early to write him off IMO although he was poor along with several others on the night

It will take time for him to adapt to the Poch philosophy and we should get behind him as Lamela had a similar start and came good as did Son

Have to trust in Poch

I'm sorry but I just don't see the pressing Sissoko is meant to have done. Whenever I have watched him he ambles towards the action but is often too late to make a different. He is no Victor that's for sure and I think this highlights his weaknesses even more. I also believe he is more effective in the middle of the park but crashes through not linking up nicely as he seems to struggle with control and passing. Winks gave the ball away a few times but i'm ok with that as he was trying to thread the eye of a needle, if it had come off we would be through, others just give bread and butter passes away which isn't excusable in today's game. Football transfers seem to be very complicated but I can't help but thinking we got a deal to write off the remaining payments on Andros. He still however must have been fancied by Poch... Perhaps he's being forced to cover on the wing as we're short, maybe there are plans to have him in the middle and he will come into his own. but for now it's a worry, especially when we see Tommy aka 'the new Modric' also getting a new contract when his passing (the only part he has to his game) being shocking... Maybe Poch can't always pick a winner. No manager has 100% record on players, it would be unreasonable to expect it!

"ambling around" covers it nicely. He lets runners past him, tackles like a fanny, and can't / won't try for headers. Toon fans were happy to get shot of him for a reason. Theres clearly a good player in there but mentally I don't think he's got it at all, the way he treated Newcastle to the way he dropped Everton in the lurch... I'm going to struggle to warm to him. I thought the plan was for him and Dembele to fight for the same place but he's been put out wide where his mistakes hopefully won't cost us as much. For £30M and a player who already has ample experience of this league its not unreasonable to expect a lot more, unlike Lamela who had never played here and was injured for a year.
