After we won it I said the EL will be exclusively won by PL teams going forward. I don't see that changing for a while. One of Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford will win it at a canter.

Never forget those that tried to gaslight the fanbase that winning it made Ange a good manager. Never Forget.
In fairness it is harder for clubs that don't have big club money and squad depth. That trio have been one-game-a-week merchants forever.

It's not like the Conference where you're truly playing farmers a lot of the time, there are decent sides in the Europa.

I'd back Bournemouth over 2 legs against Bodo/Frankfurt/Roma etc.

Yeah their league form will suffer but they will prioritise EL because of the prize at stake.

How about just never forgetting that we won it. It was a great night and week their after having won our 4th European trophy. My best week being a spurs supporter in my life time . No doubt villa fans are on cloud 9 tonight and will be buzzing all through summer and up to super cup final. Be hard pressed to find any of them claiming it's tin pot or whatever.

It's unfortunate that still some still can't fully enjoy it because of who was in charge

It's a shame that our own fans have to denounce a trophy just because of who won it, same fans mind you who were desperate for this club to get over the line and would sell their man to see the day we actually won something

Not certain.

Rumours Emery is off.

Martinez is confirmed off. Rogers will go to a giant. Buendia will be wanted.

They also have an aging squad.

They have a lot of work to do this summer if all the above occurs.
Emery will go when Cholo will leave Atleti. He's their pick.
Villa are a well-run club, and will have no problems finding replacements.
At the end of the day, their fans will have a blast, and deservedly so. One of the decent clubs in football.

I’d add that Villa were literally in the Championship playoff for promotion the same week we played for the Champions League final in 2019. Our two club’s fortunes could not have been more different heading into the 2020s. Somehow, they’ve zoomed by us, while despite posting top 8 revenues in world football we cannot build a squad to save our lives and very well may be relegated this weekend.

The standards at this club and the sheer bungling of nearly every transfer is mind-blowing. We have really fucked it all up. Not an ounce of competence anywhere to be found at this club.

Our recruitment has been appalling. They’ve signed better more technical players than we have. They signed Roger’s from the Championship. We signed Odobert. They also appointed an elite manager. We appointed Ange and Frank. It’s just appalling

Until someone like Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Brighton or Brentford win the Europa league, I’m not convinced it is all just because English teams have money.

Villa were a good team this season, top four most of the year. That’s no different than previous English sides to win it.

The competition is worse without CL teams dropping down but that does not diminish Villa’s run this season.

There would have been an outcry if we had gone for Emery as he comes from the Darkside?
And I don't mean Transylvania!

How would you do it? Every country in Europe gets an equal share?

The truth is that a team that finishes 17th in the PL can win the EL. Basically every team in the PL has the best the coaches, scouts and data teams and...most importantly money thus players.
not sure about a complete equal share but certainly more equal than it is now. All this coefficient does is give a continuous advantage financially to teams in the PL. like it’s needed given it’s the most watched league anyway

They did the coefficient rules when La Liga and Serie A were the best leagues in the world and the Prem has to play catch up, nothing anyone can do about it now and it would be unfair to change it now.

Sorry but they need to shake the Europa league up again. Bring back CL teams dropping in to it. It’s far too weak atm.

The conference is just far too easy for whatever decent English side make it too. It’s a guaranteed run to a final.. have EL teams drop in to it.

Presuming you allow 8 teams from the CL to drop down to the EL, they're still gonna be shit anyway, those drop downs aren't going to make much difference.

This kind of stuff is what is embarrassing about our fanbase and probably why Thomas Frank suited a lot of you.

We become regular top 5, then regular top 4 and champions league, then had 3 top 3 finishes and at least 1 title push, with a few finals including a CL final, all without the excuse of financial misdemeanours.

Now you're saying our club is embarrassing because Villa are scraping along a fourth place finish and the trophy we won last year against a rather middling german team.

:mourweird:
Those finishes and consistency were almost a decade ago, since 2018 we've been a mess, and I said it was embarassing for Levy and ENIC, not the club. With the potential of the club they should have gotten way more out of it, definitely not the relegation they've been building towards since 2018.

The shortsighted thinks there is too much money in the English game - what about Madrid and Barca not taking 70% of the Spanish money and instead splatter it around the rest of the teams.

Fuck hampering English sides to make it more competitive in Europe when the likes of Madrid, Barca, Bayern and PSG have huge financial advantage in their own leagues - they don’t have to work as hard as English sides to win a domestic game as their league is weaker.

The CL drop down into Europa wouldn’t work in the new format anyway - what are you going to have teams finishing 25 to 31 dropping into the Europa - you might get an Ajax or Porto but that’s about it.

The big change is increasing CL spots to 36 - you’re now seeing 6 English sides in the CL whe it used to just be four. Spain have 5, Germany 4 and Italy 4 - 4th best sides in Germany and Italy are usually pretty shit compared to the English sides - you don’t get a Dortmund or AC Milan slipping into the Europa much anymore.

The Conference league has always been a complete joke of a competition - AZ Alkmaar and Djurgardens were recent semi finalists. English sides have one decent opponent - the other finalist standing between them and the trophy. Take the English and Spanish sides out and that is a much better tournament

We got to the CL final in 2019 and finished in the top 4 a few seasons back. You're furiously rubbing yourself over a club that goes window to window scraping by financially.

People like you will bash the club relentlessly for "embarrasingly" not winning a trophy and seeing top 4 as a success, and then simultaneously bash it for winning one and not finishing in the top 4. No doubt you'd be the same kind of person that would berate the club for not giving "full control" to a sporting director, and will also use the result of that as a noose.

The absolute matter of fact here is that we've never been within a million miles of relegation, even with absolute amateur managers like Sherwood and Mason in charge, with much worse talent at their disposal, and before we had a harry kane and were struggling with the likes of Soldado and Paulinho, until this recent Postecoglou era that people weirdly worship.
