If you take into account the signings LVG has made (he's spent an absolute fortune), he has done no better than Moyes. In fact there is an argument that Moyes was never backed and therefore LVG should be flying in comparison. If he doesn't make CL he's in BIG trouble as their whole business model is based on it.
Combine that with his general demeanor, and I'm glad we got Pochettino instead. Although to be fair to LVG, if the signings are the work of others at Man U rather than him, he's been kinda fucked by them...
The amount they've spent on individual players (such as di Maria and Shaw) is staggering when they needed much more of a general squad overhaul. They would have been better off spending £20m each on less flashy guys who may have made a more cohesive team.
Would love to see them fail to make CL this season. From personal experience, every United fan I know has bounced bag to being smug bastards with ridiculous expectations after being humbled last year. They were all making out like they were dark horses in the title race a week or so ago.
