Roberto Soldado

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Does anyone know who was responsible for signing him? Who was the scout or was this a Baldini special? That's the bloke that needs some blame.
Why would anyone get the blame? Who would you have signed? Would you not have gone for an experienced striker, with a fantastic record in a top league, who plays for a financially crippled club that we could get and not destroy our wage structure? I would have.
If you don't take any of the above into account, what would you look for in a new striker? Someone who doesn't score loads of goals? Someone who plays in the Serbian third division? A twelve year old?
Whoever signed Soldado signed a very good player who for some reason hasn't done it for us. It happens. Blame Soldado for not trying. Blame the managers for not getting the best from him, but you can't blame whoever signed him.

Every transfer has an element of risk. Just because a player is amazingly successful at one team doesn't necessarily mean he can transplant into another team with the same level of success - a bit like a plant - one might flourish in one corner of your garden but will just wilt when you replant it. One thing I have noticed about Soldado is that when he has time to think about it, he usually cocks it up - surely a confidence thing.

Might as well blame someone while we still can...it'll not be same when all we'll have to blame is the black box...

I cannot see what's unreasonable about apportioning some blame on the people that sanctioned the spending of 26m quid on a flop. I also said that there should be an appraisal of the process that led to the assessment of Soldado as worth that kind of money. That's hardly controversial.

It's also not my job to scour the world with a budget of £30m looking for a striker and frankly i haven't got a scooby about who we should sign.

I agree with that but you have to remember as a club sacking so many managers and staff our hoch poch team (no pun intended) means I doubt we can have properly scouted. It's not like all of the players in our squad are Pochs choices, infact few are. Bobby might have been signed because they thought he was a good player rather than because he suited what we need.

Until we settle on a manager, coaching staff and scouts for a few years we are never going to get a squad that is suited to what we need, in that respect Levy has to take some responsibility for causing such instability.

Baldini certainly did get a huge share
of misfits so hopefully with Mitchell a guy Poch trusts in now we can make better decisions going forward.

Forget who you would sign then. What attributes would you look for in a new striker?

Good question. Given our system and the way Poch sets us up and assuming we can't have everything, I'd emphasise:

1) physicality - meaning fit as well as strong
2) ability to link play and hold the ball up
3) great shooting ability as our high pressing game sees us win a lot of ball in opposition half

Means de-emphasizing stuff like aerial ability and technical wizardry I suppose.

Always thought Bobby would have done well at Woolwich where it's all about finishing inside the box.

Be interested in your thoughts mate.

I thought we should have signed Soldado, so what the fuck do I know?!?!

I'd now look at UK players who know how to play against big elbowy defenders. Ings, Fletcher, Rhodes would all fit in for us as rotation strikers with Kane I'd say. Never stop running, close down defenders, decent goal return.

One of these days his twin brother, Nolberto, previously a Spanish milkman who was shit at football but could take penalties will tell the true story of his time at Spurs.

Everyone's the expert after the event… I remember the rejoicing amongst the Spurs community when Bobby was signed, almost to a man (and woman) the fan base agreed that now we had a world class striker. As it turns out, he's not the second coming of Jimmy Greaves (or Berbatov or Klinsmann or any other fucker who's cemented their legacy at WHL) but unless there's a fully functioning crystal ball on the boardroom table at The Lane I totally fail to see how the finger of blame can be pointed at a particular individual for his disappointing record. Apart from Bobby himself that is, as ultimately he has failed to reproduce the form he had in spain.

Neil Warnock was on 5Live on Friday and made a couple of mentions about Soldado. Said he was shocking and couldn't believe we still play him.

Neil fucking Warnock. The game's up when that cunt is ripping the piss.
