Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Him and Maddison plus one more. Bissouma might be the answer but I think it needs a stronger character.

Bissouma needs to convince. I don't think he does but as always happy and even hoping to be proved wrong.

Bissouma at his best like the first few games is our best sitting 6, he can easily take the ball under pressure and break forward which is the key to a modern number 6, essential even.

But he has periods of dropped form where he can be irratic. I have seen him give 9/10 performances and 4/10 performances. Bissouma’s weakness is consistency we know he has a very high ceiling but he needs to maintain that.

If and it’s a huge if everyone is fit Bentancur becomes the big factor. Sarr is not a 6 like Bissouma, Bissouma isn’t a box to box like Sarr. Bentancur however can easily cover both roles so it really depends where you play Bentancur as to whether you play Bissouma or Sarr.

I don’t think either player has the all round quality to be the long term solution at 6/DM in Anges system.

Bissouma does some things better than Bentancur and vice versa, but I think both are far better 8/box to box players than a base of the midfield 3/DM that we could really build our midfield around long term.

Neither of them are pure DM's in the orthodox sense, but the way we play, where Ange wants that 6 to be able to receive the ball under pressure and turn out of it and carry/pass progress us forwards, I think (with our budget etc) we'd struggle to find a better player for the remit than Bissouma. I'm not saying it's impossible, but not easy. But he's just that bit better at every aspect than Bentancur for me. I don't see anything interns of the 6 remit Ange gives them, Bentancur does better than Bissouma. Bissouma sees more ball, gives it away less, resists pressure, presses and wins the ball more. The only area Bentancur is better than Bissouma is possibly in the opponents box, but that's not really an issue for that 6 remit.

Even in that 8 remit today, goal aside, I wasn't blown away by Bentancur today. Porro was doing much more of that 8 type stuff today and was more influential on the game.

If Bissouma isn't available, by all means give Bentancur the slot, but if not, it's Bissouma for me in that 6.

Bentancur is a better passer than Biss. More variety and decision making.

Biss is more press resistant and it’s close between them for winning the ball but Biss just about has it

Dont want to make it about Biss vs Bent, cause both will be useful and both will be play (I expect much more subs at 60-65min in midfield to keep intensity once all are fit/back from Afcon)… but next to Skippberg (still credits to them for their performances, but they are horribly limited) today no chance biss would look better

Rubbish. he's already looked much better against ManU, when we beat them.

Fair points.

I do agree that Bissouma is more suited to the kind of 6 that fits Anges system, but at the same time I really just don’t think he’s the long term solution for the position.
He’s just too sloppy, unreliable and ill disciplined for the role. I think the guy is a baller and would certainly keep him as a squad player, but I just think we could get a better, more long term solution for the position.

Whether we go down the line of a young up and coming player to try and mould into the position like a Vermeeran or Wharton (both of whom we’ve been strongly linked with) or go for a more experienced expensive option like a Zubimendi (very unlikely) who knows, but I really believe it’s a position that if we get the right man in, it could be the difference between nearly men and silverware.

On paper it's Biss, Bentancur and Madders.

Bentancur is currently better all round than Sarr and is more of a goal threat.

But as we've seen, this concept of a "best XI" never really plays out anyway.

Right now Bentancur is looking great as the 6 so no need to change to accomodate Biss.

If I was appointed the new manager then the XI is selected in this order
Vicario
Son
Maddison
Bentacur
Porro
Udogie
Romero
VDV
Richarlison
Kulusevski
So many choices for number eleven.
