Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Can argue one way or another if Bissouma or Bentancur are better but having both is great. We need to get them down to contracts as I think they will be 1 year at the end of season and the last thing we need is a midfield rebuild when we haven’t fully sorted the attack.

The argument is that Bentancur's interview happened in his home in London during the active PL season (it was a pre tape). Whilst Enzo's scandal happened during the Copa America in the United States.
I hear you - so the FA’s stance is that it won’t punish racism outside of the normal season?

Or is this more about the location of the racism? The location seems to me to be irrelevant for global stars. A player can avoid accountability by being in a different country?

I’d love to see the written rules on which the FA is relying.

Could be bringing in Cardoza in the summer?

I think his name is Cardoso.

Ya sure- the FA will treat us “fairly”. I suppose they mean “fairly” as in “Fair”, 3 out of 5, middling treatment. Glad we fin ally got this decent protection this past weekend, but in nearly every other possible case from reffing to scheduling we get 3 out of 5 treatment or worse.

You don’t need to overtly bribe anyone these days- just be a big league sponsor or cross-invested in any of the media companies around the prem. Not that our most arrogantly spoiled rivals aren’t also outright bribing refs and officials though, either- some of that too is likely going on at some scale.

Haven' t followed this thread.

But has any Premier League player been suspended for racist remarks before? And if so, how long?

Wanna know before i release my wrath on the Premier League!

Usually we are the club that are always on the wrong end of descisions, always first, and always hard!

Do we think any Woolwich player would be suspended?

They play a rapist for god's sake!

See my earlier post:
I don't think Bentancur's case is too far removed from the Cavani precedent in 2021. From the BBC article at the time re Cavani:

"...in imposing the minimum punishment for using insulting and/or improper language, the commission noted in mitigation that Cavani and United "have taken steps to ensure that the player has a greater understanding of his responsibilities on social media".
The commission wrote: 'The unique circumstances and facts of this player's case were of such significance that a departure from the standard minimum was justified in order to avoid an unjust outcome.' ... Along with the ban and fine, Cavani must also complete a "face-to-face" education programme."

They gave him 3 weeks and that was after the current 6-12 week sanction guideline was brought into effect in 2020, so the same rules apply here. I would think 3 weeks for Bentancur would be in line with that precedent.

Can this all be scuppered by Spurs posting some training ground pics of Bentacur and Sonny having a ball. Some playful banter, a warm hug, maybe a cheeky kiss ……one arm reach around perhaps….

:sonhmm:
