Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Reading the last few pages of this thread has me feeling quite smug really, I noticed his star quality right from the get-go.
(Mind you, I have to admit that it was more his looks than his football ability that caught my eye, initially!).
So happy that he has come on in leaps and bounds to become one of our most influential players, definitely my favourite player at the moment.
Admin Admin - you know what's coming- Please, please, pretty please, can we have a Hot Rod emoji, when you've got a mo? 😘
You have a good eye for the guys Mrs P

That pass to Moura

Best thing about this guy (and all our current crop actually) is that he never hides, with or without possession. He takes responsibility for our play, tries the difficult pass, and tries to take opposition players out of the game by fooling them in tight spaces. Usually an all round skill set can be a bit hum drum, but with this guy it’s exceptional. I love the way he can fight to protect our defence one minute, but use skill to open up the opposition the next. His foray down the left to set up Hojbjerg (crossbar) had me applauding.

The ability to break lines is ridiculous and soooooo vital in breaking low blocks. Crazy talent.
I think that's the reason why so many of us were so disappointed and angry with Ndombele. HE was meant to be the replacement and even upgrade on Dembele. At his best, Ndombele had/has all of the languid dribbling skills, the press resistance, but he was also supposed to bring the additional end product that was the ONLY thing missing from Dembele's skillset. Instead he turned out to be a lazy waster when he could legitimately have been the best in the World.

Bentancur is an excellent player, who is improving all the time and has a better end product than Dembele...

But what I wouldn't give to have Dembele back in his prime, there's no one, and I include Modric in this, who could break apress and advance the ball from defence to attack the way Dembele did.

Dier had it right, he was a total freak of nature. Comparing Bentancur to him is unfair on Rodders.

The one aspect of his game that has stood out for me is his perpetual movement with or without the ball. He never stands and admires a pass, he's always moving on to another position to receive and distribute.

He's also one of those players that "has a picture of the pitch in his head," so he doesn't need to dwell, look up, then try to find someone to pass to, he already knows where they are. It only really ever comes unstuck if the others are static.

He might not be a Dembele Rolls Royce, but he's still a Rolls Royce.

Something we sorely lack a lot of the time.....

I don't think that's entirely true. I think the passing is the result of Conte's training, he's been taught a few specific forward passes, which he often executes without looking and often fails to find anyone. It's the pass he did to Kulu for Kane winner against City last season.

What he does have is quick feet and calmness on the ball and dribbles out of trouble without breaking a sweat.

While I agree, I would describe it a different way. To me, he is always looking to be progressive. He only goes backwards when his forward options were shut down.

He also measures the risk of the pass very well, so he doesn’t force passes but still makes a lot of good ones. Perfect quality for a central midfielder.
