Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's a crazy injury, in a sport where after a couple of weeks out you become rusty
EDIT: I was meant to reply to a post above

When I first saw this guy I thought he was the answer in midfield.

Then he got some bad injuries, and wasn't really the same since. Weekend was the first time in a long while he played very well in all aspects.

I'm hopeful he gets back to his best because if he does he's an automatic first XI pick (for me).

Well, I would say that at their best, both - Bissouma and Bentancur are very good players.

And by "at their/his best" for Bissouma I mean last season first 7 games for example. But here is the issue - both seem too inconsistent. Cause vs Coventry in midweek, Bentancur seemed lost almost until the end of the game. Against Brendford I was already impressed by his contribution in real time, but looking at his involvements - it looked even better.

Would be awesome if either of them would be able to such performances up in the long run. Or at least one would be good when other isn't and vice versa. But it is Tottenham you know... so when one gets a ban, other gets injured. And when other finds form, the other will too :D .

Prior to injury Bentancur WAS consistent.
Biss can't boast the same thing... Even if you give him a clean slate after Conte refusing to play him.

Bentancur pre-injury was miles better than Bissouma, he played with personality and tenacity. The type of player that fans take a liking to immediately. Hopefully he can get back to his old level because he can take the team up a notch if he does.

Biss is still an enigma. In one game he will play like Dembele and in the next he will be Ndombele. Even within a single match he can lurch from bullying people to being easily dispossessed or playing brain-dead passes. In his 3rd season now and I still don't really trust him to stay awake properly.

Funny how perception is changed around here. Now Bentancur is way better even. When I recall smiling as, pre Chelsea, we had contributors saying Bissouma was better than Dembele. The truth is always in the middle.

No need to be churlish and conflate varying opinions as contradiction; different posters prefer different players that's all......

Both players just have different problems to overcome.

Biss: In prime form; we briefly saw a player that could be compared to the dominant nature of Dembele.
Bentancur: On best form isn't as dominant (as Biss), but is much better with the ball.

If we can harness the best of both then we have 2 cracking MFers; what's not to like?

I think pre-ACL Bentancur is better than Bissouma, I think most would agree.

And anyone who ever said Bissouma was better than Dembele (based on about 10 games) should be banned from talking about football. Matt Doherty had a run of games where he looked like Cafu FFS but that wasn't his real level.

Why is it churlish to point out that the consensus has changed. Seems like you're sensitive were you one of the people calling him better than Demble? I simply stated facts as ever its eye of the beholder. I'd rather steer clear of the overt comparison ( such as you have made) altogether.

They're two completely different players that really can't be be compared tbh.

I think Bissouma is much better suited to our starting eleven when he's on form playing in the role that Ange plays them both in.

I am not surprised that in a game like the Brentford one, Bentancur was looking his best, because we were basically winning back the ball at will and it was a game played to his strengths. He's one of the best pressers in the team (which is why I am surprised he hasn't played more at 8 over Sarr)

In a game, like Leicester for example, where the game is played fully in front of us, there's pretty much no place for Bentancur in the eleven. He's not inventive enough with his passing and his strengths are nullified by a low block.

I don't think Bentancur, even at his best for us, has ever had a game for us as good Bissouma against United (H) or Woolwich (A) from last season.

Bissouma at his very best is the best DM we’ve had this century (obviously Dembele isn’t a DM in that ranking)

Bentancur maintained his best form for longer pre injury but at their very best, for me Bissouma is clear.
