Poch’s best season of 86pts coincided with the team which he inherited all peaking that same year, and what a group of players that was, most even carried it over to the following season, but unfortunately they have been declining ever since, and not one, NOT a single one has been replaced effectively.
Sure it’s easy to blame Levy, but he doesn’t have 100’s of millions to throw around left right and centre, but he has given Pochettino enough cash to at least find one fucking replacement, Jesus we outlaid more on 3 players this summer that cost more than the Leicester City team combined, hell Liverpools two fullbacks (the best two in the entire league) cost less than fucking Serge Aurier.....Pochettino simply couldn’t spot the right players within our budget over the past 3 years and it finally caught up with him, simple as that.

My heart bleeds with the salary he was on but you’re probably right which goes to show his lack of professionalism

You don’t ‘give up’ in a position like that
Meh. Salary or not, we’re all human. If you were in a job where you were constantly fighting against the wind to match your own personal ambitions, you would eventually lose motivation, no matter what you’re earning.

My view is that Poch was a good manager, but not a great one. Yes, he was somewhat stymied by a lack of funding but when it really came down to it the team he had was better than the results attained and that comes down to a lack of strategic skill at a high level.

One thing is for sure, trophies or not - Poch was a miracle man for achieving what he did on a 50p transfer budget over the last 2 years prior to this summer. I'm sure even half the player he signed were not his preferred target but some bargain bin Levy specials like the shit0cunts Njie, Nkoudou, Stambouli, etc.

Much like with Redknapp when he got us 4th in 2010 we failed to invest in the team the following few windows and the rest was history

I hear what you’re saying but not in a job like that where you’re responsible for so many people

He’s not and never has been a winner

Miracle man that had Kane, Son, Eriksen, Ali, Dembele,Walker, Lloris, Alderweireld and Vertonghen in their prime.

Just like Roberto Martinez is a miracle man for a getting a small tiny nation with no history of success to a World Cup semi final hey?

The crap that some come out with to excuse Pochettino is quite something.

Back in the bin you go, fucknut

People keep bringing up the argument that he wasn’t backed properly when it was reported multiple times he turned down opportunities to buy good players. Then when he was backed he bought poorly.

Someone please frame this part...

Were the team really 'that good' or were other teams poor. I think Poch benefited from a purple patch where the other teams were rebuilding. We hit our prime; whilst overs were declining.

City, Pool, Chelsea, Woolwich and United all had a period of rebuild. We now see a much stronger City/Liverpool and United team. Chelsea and Woolwich are getting better and we have the likes of Leicester and Wolves looking to make significant progress.

Everyone got better, we stood still. No change in personnel, no change in tactics and replacing key players (Walker/Wanyama/Dembele) with inferior players.

Over the next 3 seasons, we will likely see Liverpool and City have a couple of 'poor seasons' (maybe this is it for City) and have to replace key players. Meanwhile; Chelsea and United (maybe Woolwich) will emerge as the dominant force. Where Spurs fit into this is unclear.
Looks like city will need a bit of a rebuild. Only 1 good CB. Probably could do with another RB & LB. As well as a DM. Maybe another forward with aguero edging closer to being too old to be the main man. Hopefully Liverpool will need one as well althoughit doesn't feel close. But I did hear there average age is quite high or that they have a lot of fairly old players. Any hint of their demise you have to take.

Wouldn't surprise me if they sign Söyüncü in the summer.
Seen him linked to then. Not seen enough of him to know if he's a pep type of CB. Problem is Leicester will ask for a huge amount as they aren't desperate for ££. & lately city won't pay too over the odds which is why they didn't get VVD, Harry Maguire or Sanchez.

This is why the current focus on extending contracts is strange. I can understand the lack of signings when the stadium was the focus, fair enough, but now they should be bringing in new blood not bending over for players who get turned inside out by Danny Ings.

Poch improved those player hugely. Prior to Poch.

Walker: under AVB was a mess
Verts: under AVB/Sherwood was disinterested
Lloris: fine ok he was already decent
Dembele: inconsistent to the point he drove most Spurs fans mad
Eriksen: talented but not great performances
Dele: a young talent kid but had yet to prove himself on the big stage
Toby: like Lloris yes he was already looking good.
Kane: good but dramatically improved under Poch.

Poch allowed those players to grow and reach their highest potential for their ability, that was his skill.

And Danny Rose. This place nearly melted when he was given a new contract.

I don’t subscribe to this notion much like I didn’t when others accredited Bale and Modric’s success at the club down to Redknapp.

But if what you say is true is Pochettino also not responsible for the regression in these players? Lloris, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Ali, Eriksen, Rose are playing well below the level they set 3-4 years ago. Is Pochettino responsible for that or is it just one way?

And why hasn’t there been any other breakthroughs since 2016 if he so talented in this regard? If he was able to progress talents such as these into such star players why haven’t we seen anyone since Son back in 2016 emerge?
