Good transfer window for youth teams in getting so many out on loan - good to build up their experience, and might get some into, or around, first team squad in next couple of years with luck

George Marsh the only over age player left at the club.
As Gazza has left there is a HG slot available for him in the EPL squad.
I wonder if he gets named?

George Marsh is a tenacious, tough-tackling holding midfielder.

Thought it would be worth summarising the transfer window from a youth perspective :

Player Transfers Out Permanently
Georgiou - Free
Pochettino - Free
De Bie -Free

Loans to other clubs for rest of the season
Clarke (Winger) - Stoke
Walcott (CB/RB) - Dundee
Austin (GK) - Orlando City (unclear if its for MLS season ?)
Parrott (Striker/LW) - Ipswich
Okedina (RB?CB) - Cambridge United
White (CM) - Portsmouth
Roles (AM/CM) - Ipswich
Sterling (Striker) - Greenwich Morton
Tracey (Forward) - Cambridge United

New loans for Clarke, Walcott, Austin, Okedina and White (5 new loans in total ) , a 2nd loan this season for the others (4 in total).

And we still have a decent sized u23 squad left which will probably need to be trimmed in the summer.

Austin's loan is 100% for the MLS season. Makes no sense otherwise.

Agreed, but first announcement was a little vague (corrected since I think), and it maybe because the regular MLS season starts soon and runs until October with a 'post season MLS Cup playoff with finals in December for the top teams.

So with potential for covid to affect things, uncertainty whether Orlando City will make the MLS Cup play off, and indeed the uncertainty as to when their no 1 goalkeeper (Peru International) will be available, I suspect there may be genuine uncertainty as to when his loan may end. But provided Austin is playing regularly, it probably doesn't really matter which the end date is.

Despite the number of players on loan, and inclusion of Alfie Whiteman into first team, we still have a sizeable u23 squad of 19 players :

GK: Josh Oluwayemi, Kacper Kurylowicz
FB: Dennis Cirkin, Keenan Ferguson (injured), Marcel Lavenier
CB: Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, Tobi Omole
CM: George Marsh. Jamie Bowden, Elliot Thorpe, Rafferty Pedder, Aaron Skinnner
AM: Dilan Markanday, J’Neil Bennett, Jeremie Mukendi, Chay Cooper.
FW: Rodel Richards, Kion Etete, Enock Asante.

But of these, 6 players (Aaron Skinner, Rafferty Pedder, Chay Cooper, Enock Asante and Jeremie Mukendi ) only sporadically make the match day squads, whilst Keenan Ferguson has a long term injury, potentially reducing a match day squad to 13 players drawn from u23 squad (including 2 GK's). Maybe those 6 players will start to make more appearances, but maybe they won't given decisions on who will be retained next season are probably being finalised in the next few weeks

Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett, are the obvious pair to step up, but I wonder i we will see more regular involvement from Academy Year 2 players such as Nile John (CM) and Max Robson (AM) (both awarded new contracts to June 2023 recently) and defenders Dermi Lusala, Marques Muir and Maksim ,Paskotši to boost numbers - its common for a few of the better academy players to start to play u23 games in the 6 months before they officially join the u23 squad.

Lavinier added to the Europa League A-list squad.

Well spotted!! ML not 3 years at the club.

Defender Marcel Lavinier joined our Development Squad in October, 2020, following a trial period.

Primarily a right-back, he can also fill in at left-back or in the centre of defence.
