My genuine thought at the end of the game was that all XI did great.

He has a Shearer/VanNistelrooy type quality, ultra composed finisher. Hope his speed of play holds up through higher levels and his hold up improves, as he has a real shot at making a good prem striker. Will Lankshear ends his season with 23 goals (and 2 assists) in 23 games in PL2, and 2 goals and 1 assist in 3 EFL games plus another 7 goals in u21 Premier League Cup
So that's 32 goals and 3 assists this season.
I can't remember the last u21 striker to get over 30 goals in a season
Tought the same, put the main team defense and the u21 attack together and we start cooking!Watching this today i just thought the front 4 play Anges football much better than the first team the 2nd goal was a prime example of how it should work with Donley & Jude opening Sunderland up brilliantly and finding Lankshere for the finish, Donley just makes things look so easy

Be interesting to see how the club view Santiago. With about 10 or 11 players coming up from this years Academy Year 2 (Bloedorn, Baptiste, Rowswell, Pele, King (LB) , Black (RB), Hall, Wilhoft-King, Ajayi, Irow, Akhamrich) to join u21's next season I think it inevitable that we need to 'lose' some of the players.
We will probably struggle to loan out more than about 10 of the 24 players on your list (we've never loaned out more, just are not enough clubs to take them) with a couple maybe included in the first team squad rather than loans.
Probably keep 6 or 7 of the above list of this years u21's players to play alongside the 10 or 11 youngsters being promoted from Academy Year 2 (which would mean about 17 or 18 players in next season's u21 squad probably plus Moore and Olusesi playing up - otherwise some players would not get into u21 match day squad of 11 plus 5 subs).
And that means something like 6 or 7 of the listed players need to move on. The obvious ones might be Maguire, Heaps, Linton but I suspect it might include 2 or 3 from todays squad who have outgrown u21's but are not at a level to loan out to other clubs etc. Some tough choices to make
Be interesting to see how the club view Santiago.
I had high hopes for Nile John.
yeah he was excellent, you wouldn't know he was only 17 based on how he played todayTom Watson who played wide for Sunderland looks a player with a real chance of making it IMO.
Yes rather have one of our own than cheap puts from overseas or other lower league teams in England. Save the money and spend the big bucks for proven quality. It’ll be a real shame if some of these players don’t get a shot at integrating into the first team. We need to do better at showing them a path forward.
Hopefully he can get an opportunity with the first team on the bench or something. We bought Veliz at 19 paying €15M so surely we can give a chance our Will?Lankshear shunned the offer of a pro contract at our near neighbours and joined a better team - Sheffield United - to showcase his skills allowing him to join Spurs a year later, and hasn't looked back since !
