Transfers Summer 2018 transfer window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Bale had resumed full training and gone on a pre season tour and then left, I'm sure people would see that as a worse snub. As soon as a world record offer was on the radar we knew he'd leave. He never said anything negative about us in the press either. What should he have done?

Done his job. I'd have him back in a heartbeat but let's not forget.

Deals collapse all the time. If that one had, then what? He should have trained, he should have done what he normally would. Simple professionalism.

Whether you are accepting an offer or not. You don't fail to turn up for training, refuse to go on tour and fake injury. You be professional.
You’re making the assumption that the club wanted to have their world record transfer fee asset running around in needless training half a world away waiting for a hamstring to pop and blow the whole thing up.

The most feasible assumption is that the club floated the injury in case the negotiations went south there would be an excuse why Bale wasn’t with the team, but the club wanted him wrapped in cotton and not risking blowing up such a monumental deal. The club had zero motive to have him running about training with a squad they had no intention of him playing a match with.

Either way, missing a few training sessions in route to an inevitable world record transfer is hardly Judas stuff. It’s embarrassing the hate that he gets from some quarters, especially when some continue to suck off Modric despite the fact that he was 1000x worse and went on legitimate strike to attempt to force a transfer to Chavs that the club did not want.

That's not how clubs work. As long as you are fit and a player for Spurs and not banished from the training ground for disciplinary reasons you are expected to do your job. Which the majority of the time, is train.

As I said, deals collapse all the time. Especially with Levy. And trust me, if what you say were true, we'd have heard it from Harry Redknapp or Tim Sherwood by now.

No one is comparing him to Judas.

The idea that Bale quit on Spurs requires one to first honestly believe that we would ever consider turning down a world record transfer fee. Do you seriously believe that?

Levy attempted to put a good face on it, but we were never turning down that offer.
Maybe, but the question becomes when did the bid come in, how did it get that large, and when Bale quit on us. It wasn't likely that Madrid just walked in the door and said "Hey, how about we give you 100MM Euros for Bale?", and then Levy sat on it to save face.

Chances are that they had already spoke to Bale and he signaled some intention to go, Madrid knew and put in a much lower bid, Spurs knew at some point either directly or indirectly that Bale wanted to go and this could turn bad for all, and then Levy played the game to keep jacking up the transfer fee until we were satisfied and made it hurt a little for them.

It's unfair to simplify everything and to say that it was all Bale quitting or Levy capitulating immediately on a big offer. It was some combination of a lot of different factors.

The whole Bale as a traitor idea is incredibly petty and boring. He was one of the 5 best players in the world at the time and left to play at arguably the largest club in the world and make 4-5x the wage he could make here AFTER TAX. Trying to cast him as a turncoat just makes you look a bit Spam-ish, shitting on Parker because he left the circus for WHL.

I wouldn't call him a traitor but I don't think that we have to like what happened either. I understand why he left, why we took the money, and why Madrid wanted him. That being said, I do hold it against him that he stopped playing for us at the end and some of his other actions that lead to it happening when it did.

Honestly, more than anything both sides have changed a lot since that time, and it just doesn't feel like we are moving forward by bringing him back. It'd be like getting back together with a high school girlfriend that was a step up over you, after she just got a divorce from some rich, good looking guy and now you maybe have a chance again. It's just time to move on...

Yeah, and if we're over it about Berbatov (a far worse situation IMO), we should definitely be over it about Bale.

Who went to Man United....

Yet we had the audacity to present him as a hero after the final game at WHL

At least Gareth had the decency to move abroad. Seeing him move to United would have been unstomachable

It's damned well obvious to anyone with a shred of common sense that this is exactly how it played out.
I'm just glad it's come from you because if it was posted by me I'd be labelled some kind of conspiracy theorist idiot.
To think Levy ever had any intention of turning down 85million bucks in 2013 don't even warrent an argument.

edit: even the oppo player at bottom left can't help himself cheering such a fantastic goal

Dele has always been a central midfielder bar two seasons he's had with Spurs.

Him playing in a midfield 3 won't stop him scoring goals or creating. In fact it probably allows him to sneak in unmarked and break through the opposing defence easier.

He broke into the Spurs team as a central midfielder He broke into the England team as a central midfielder. It's not out of the realms of possibility that we move him back.

One of his best games for us last season came at home to Liverpool. He played central midfield and scored.
We're coming for that 4-3-3 formation.
:pochohshit:

Probably all part of the plan, but watching other clubs get big deals done while it's gone all quiet on our end is fucking aggravating.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

“I turned down €110m for Milinkovic-Savic on August 29 [2017], so I don’t know how much he is worth now, but I can tell you €100m isn’t enough,” said Lazio President Claudio Lotito

“I get angry when I read people call Lazio a supermarket. I’ve never put anyone up for sale. In the past they wouldn’t even knock on the door, clubs would just come and take, but now they have to ask for permission.”

Lotito: 'Rejected €110m for Milinkovic' | Football Italia

The fact he hasn't turned up isn't the correct behaviour,' Villas-Boas said.' But maybe he is trying to put pressure on. It is now Up to the club to decide if that is a fineable offence.

'I gave him the weekend off, Monday was a team day and he is in the middle of a move Real Madrid.”
