By the way, if anyone ever wants proof that stats alone don't give a fair reflection of reality, do you know how many 'errors leading to goals' Sanchez has made in his entire Spurs career, according to PremierLeague.com? Just TWO!

All these years I've thought he was terrible, out of position, kept missing headers and tripping over the ball, but in fact it seems I was wrong, he's actually one of the best defenders in the history of the premier league! Now, how can we bring that stat / webpage to the attention of Seville...

:sonpoint:
Errors leading to goals is a subjective piece of shit stat.

1) Very injury prone - WARNING SIGN
He isn't. A proper inspection of his injury record and an understanding of his play/work would show this.
2) Do we actually need him? Where will he play , won't he play where Skipp/Hojbjerg will play?
Yes, yes, yes. He is better than both of them now and what either projects to be. We need MFers more than any position on the field IMO and have done for years. The blatant disrespect on this board for the most important position in the game astounds me and evinces an absolute ignorance of the game.

You can never have enough MFers...unless they are shit or lacking like ours. If we were truly ambitious we would be looking to send Hojberg to the bench by recruiting a better player (who we get for cheap because of injury/contract) in his place. And we'd do this because we've now seen Hojberg's limitations.

Getting a robust, atheletic, and technical group of MFers would make life easier for our anxious CBs and would keep Harry (or whichever new striker) out of the gd MF trying to 'create'. It would also keep featherweights like Winks and donkeys like Sissoko the hell outta there.

I hate digging out Spurs players but every time I see Sanchez on the team sheet I grimace.

When we signed him I thought we were getting a raw defender with elite athleticism. Well he turned out to be raw, but his athleticism is completely overhyped.

He isn’t anywhere near as fast as he thinks he is, can be bullied and is pretty poor in the air. He has zero natural defensive instincts, and at any time in any game can make the sort of inexplicable error that can cost us points.

If he were a youth team product, we’d be sending him on loan to the Championship.

A real mistake by our scouting department signing him. If memory serves Leicester picked up Evans the same summer for like 6m and he’s been a rock.
I'm not going to blame the scouts too much for this, I'm sure he looked real good at Ajax. It just hasn't worked out but the idea of getting in a top defender was right.

First goal conceded vs Leeds allows ball to pass him compounded by a further Reguilon error. Second goal vs Leeds heads ball to Leeds man then plays statue in the sixyard box while Bamford scores from a cutback. Manchester United first goal, again plays statue as Cavani ghosts behind him. Manchester United second goal, not completely at fault but contributes heavily by again playing statue as Cavani ghosts by and sets up Fred. West Ham first goal, does not clear initial cross, doesn't even attempt to, them blames Tanganga who was also at fault. Second goal in that game, both he and Sanchez at sea as Lingard waltzes between them to score. Gives away as bad a penalty vs Chelsea as you'll ever see, clumsily fouling Werner in a one goal defeat. Aurier/Dier/Lloris all poor for first goal in 3-1 defeat to Liverpool.

That's going back to February, so not even half a season. Maybe I'm being harsh, so we'll chalk off two, or even three of those. That leaves 5, and I'm sure I'll find another 5/6 later on when I go from August-Jan.

To play devil's advocate then, a good manager would realise that Sanchez drifts out of position, and instruct a partner to cover him when he does, no?
Not really. This is where having an experienced, intelligent and highly communicative partner comes into the equation. If he starts drifting out of position, the partner needs to be constantly talking to him, directing his movement and bawling at him if he does. Eventually, Sanchez will be thinking about his positioning himself and will build that understanding with his partner. He'll effectively be educated in game time.

This is where Naybet was so instrumental in making King arguably the best of his generation. King, as a youngster, would often make similar mistakes, but Naybet educated him and helped to make him what he was.

Instructing a partner to cover for him doesn't address the root problem, it just compensates for it, meaning that Sanchez would never improve as a defender. It could also lead to further issues as, if his partner is covering for him, HE is then effectively out of position, which could then expose other areas of the defence.

One year left on his contract means he will be cheaper than normal
He also didn't play that well coming back from his knee injury. With the emergence of Neuhaus in BMG's MF Zakaria wasn't able to secure his starting role when he returned. For me this is not a concern because folks usually take 18-24 months to actually get back to their level after such things even though it only take 6-10 to get back on the field.

He & Foyth were a suitably ambitious succession plan for Toby & Jan..... Something we don't see enough of here. Can't help think that things could have been different (Dav did well whilst Toby was out with injury in his first season), but Poch didn't have the stomach for it

Kane can fuck off. If he wants to join that disgusting club he's playing his part in the death of football. I have zero respect for anyone playing for that vile team and their murderous owners.

Enjoy the blood money you fucking drooling inbred.
