I know you're joking, but how do you think that works?

We lose him for a year... we lose maybe 50m off his transfer fee by kicking the can down the road one more season... he doesn't sign a new deal... moves to City next summer anyways.

Lose, lose, lose, lose.
He's got three years! Lose him for one season loan fee £50m, he scores 70 goals for City wins everything then comes back with Poch in charge and a rejuvenated Eriksen...simples

Dortmund buy young talent and then play them. If we bought Dortmund targets, half this board would be making Danny Rose google jokes or ripping them the first time they fucked up.

Yes and there's a reason for that. Dortmund have world class scouting and coaching with a track record of finding these absolute gems.

We have Steve Hitchen and coaches hired purely for sentimentality like Mason and King. Our track record includes shit like Sanchez, Lamela and Chadli.

We could have 'done a Dortmund' on Dier, Dele, Eriksen, Kane, Walker, Son & Rose and raked in a fortune....

BVB (+ Leicester & Monaco) sell their stars for peak value (very much a selling club).... A large % of our fans haven't got the stomach for that.

In the 8 years since Bale left we've only sold one big player (despite us having no desire for him to leave - Walker) and 4 years later some still cry about it.

Yes but those clubs buy quality young players and coach them well. Their fans can have confidence in their signings because of the excellent scouting and coaching setups they have.

We on the otherhand have dogshit scouting and coaching staff and end up stuck with a lot of shit players, see Lamela, Sanchez, Dier, Winks, Aurier etc. We can't have the faith in our scouting/academies that those clubs have.

While those three players haven't lived up to potential, they were bought at a time when I seriously doubt there was much conversation about the manager's requirements. They were young, had potential, but needed coaching and a system to fit into. The breakdown is between the person signing the player and the people integrating them into the team. Hopefully Fonseca and Paratici will get us past that hurdle.

The list i just made were all young quality players that could have been sold for huge sums before peak age in the interests of further scouting and reinvestment.... The fact is you need to stick to a strategy to become good at it. The fact we haven't has been a key issue for us ( see Post in thread 'Summer 2021 - Transfer Thread' https://thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/threads/summer-2021-transfer-thread.39452/post-2917090 )

P.s. We didn't even scout Winks and believe it or not now but we declined 50m from Utd. for Dier some years back. Also, it wasn't too long ago we were making profit on players like Chadli & Wimmer and Accademy lads like Townsend, Pritchard, Carroll, Mason, Bentaleb......

Halfway through Poch's reign we got ahead of ourselves and all that changed.

He is not the clinical striker they need so all this signing will do is further increase the xG
Haha, yeah Gonzalez is very much a volume shooter. His movement is great though, if he stays fit I think he can score 10-15 per season in the PL. They'll surely sign a traditional striker as well this summer, and give Connolly a loan or sell him.

Bit of info in here. Seems we might be challenging Juve for a few of their targets. That will work out well for us I suspect!

Couldn't we just reach an agreement. We'll not challenge Juve for any of their targets if they sell us De Ligt. Fair deal?

The old “ We tried to sign Messi and Ronaldo but they moved the goal posts, we then got blown out of the water by United. Unfortunately by the time we realised we could not get the deal done our second choice had signed an extension with Halifax Town, it’s now getting late in the window and we don’t have time to get anyone else’
