We have yet to be linked with anyone I’d characterize as a clear upgrade on Bergwijn btw. Maddison and Zaha the only exceptions. I can accept Malinovskyi as at least he offers something different in a profile we are lacking.

They are both far better dribblers than Lucas.

His skillset is very different from Kulu, but is that not a plus?

I agree with you that he’s not the ideal Conte player, but after a few months of Contes training regime he may shine.

I kinda think he's the polar opposite of a Conte player more than just a bit ill suited. Maybe that changes but we've targeted players of a certain type & I don't see that changing at all. And regardless, Newcastle aren't in a position where we can just snatch their players.

I'd prefer a midfielder. Not necessarily a 10 but someone who offers a bit more craft. I really haven't seen much of this Atalanta guy & just know he can score bangers.

Aye. Feels very much like Gil's (loan?) deal suddenly became imminent so we reactivated our attacker headhunting.

Makes sense considering Conte's comments on Saturday about needing replacements for any outgoings outside the obvious outcasts.

I honestly don’t know about that, this strikes me as the exact sort of availability bias we have as Spurs fans. We remember all the times Lucas runs down blind alleys and loses the ball but against Leicester, Burnley, Villa last year I could make a highlight reel where he looks like Neymar.

Whereas with Adama and ASM we remember the highlights shown on MOTD and the odd performance, but not the bad stuff, the turnovers, the lazy pressing, the missed runners etc.

Don’t get me wrong they are much more physically imposing and offer better ball carrying as a result. Overall though their end product, passing, vision, crossing, pressing etc are not better than Lucas at all, so it’s not a consequential difference. They essentially would be slightly stronger versions of Moura and I question spunking big money on that.

Fair. I’m confident ASM’s overall game is much better than Lucas is now. No way Lucas has a game like ASM just had against city. Even the Ajax hat trick game was just 3 amazingly timed finishes rather than looking like a menace and creating all game long.

Tottenham want to sign Leeds United attacker Dan James in a surprise £20million move before the close of the window, according to Alan Nixon.

The Welsh winger only arrived from Manchester United a year ago, but has struggled to make an impact properly at the club, often being played out of position as a centre-forward to cover for injury.
