I'm cool with a lower-midtable rebuild year as long as use it to properly blood some of our youngsters like Lankshear, Vuskovic Bergvall, and Moore. I don't think all the moves we need to make can be done in one summer, and filling in some of the holes with youngster that can grow into them seems a wise move to put us in a better bargaining position next summer.

Had a very good season at Oxford. Could, hopefully, "could" be ready to step up

Id be very happy if he impresses enough to earn a place in the squad and some opportunities next season

Lower mid table with no european football would be a disgraceful season

Depends on DeZerbi.....I think he is aiming higher than a lower mid table rebuild and for that he will want to rely on experienced players

It might be a year too early for the 4 you mention. Looks like Vuskovic is staying in Hamburg, Moore likely to return to Rangers, I wouldn't mind Lankshear going to a club like Ipswich to see if McKenna can develop him in the way he did Delap. Bergvall needs a loan too

I agree - i just think there can be some value there
FWIW I agree in general that older players on free transfers can be a source of value.

Ivan Perisic was really good for us in 22/23 with quality on the ball and an understanding of what Conte wanted.

It's just that Andy Robertson as an all-action fullback who doesn't have the legs anymore playing in De Zerbi's system doesn't really profile as someone who would perform well on the pitch.

We need more goals in this team.

Richarlison's probably gone so that's 11 goals we need to replace. Then on top of that we have to get at least 5 more goals than we've gotten this season as it is.

I don't trust Solanke to stay fit let alone get double digits next season and the striker options in the market aren't great either.

People are talking about Savinho but he doesn't score enough goal.

Equally he has missed 10 hard chances, 15 moderate chances and 20 fucking sitters.
Each time scratching the back of his peroxide blonde hair and sheepishly glancing at the bench.

Agreed about Savinho as well as Solanke fitness issues that seem deeper than club are letting on (notice the way he runs like he has shin splints and looks like he is in pain but is trying to hide it).

Well- club has a lot of business to do then, if that is the case. Just by merely going off of past summers, I don't think they are competent enough to make all of these moves in one window.

The first shot

Christian Bale Oooo GIF
Give him a real close look RDZ this kids going to be a EPL striker

He needs minutes to learn the game. His linkup play still needs plenty of refinement. Hopefully his goals last year gets him a loan to a team going for promotion in the Champ.

If West Ham can’t keep Castellanos…😂

17th in the Prem the past 2 seasons has been hellacious for me personally. I don't really care how well or not we are doing in Europe if we are getting consistently done by our rivals. If we simply finish 10-12th next season, I'd consider it a very good improvement.
10th-12th playing 1 game a week would be awful and i feel de zerbi will be aiming much higher too. Utd just jumped 15th to 3rd and the bournemouths, brightons and sunderlands of this world are playing 3 times a week next year.

Anything below 8th is really poor for us imo.

I imagine you wet your pants laughing when Lindelof signed for Villa.
Wasn’t Lindelof part of the Man Utd squad we beat?

Emery changed his position and he fit in well when Villa were short of CMs , but he certainly wasn’t a leader of the team. Not was he a transformational signing.

Villa had too much for Freiburg and were easily the best team in the competition.

Villa are good because Emery had got the likes of Martinez, McGinn, Konsa and Watkins as building blocks and he kept adding quality (Tielemans, Onana, Camara, Torres) to fit his system.

Still you make a good point. The road back to competitiveness isn’t the most difficult, not when Villa have Digne, Cash and Lindelof milling about. That’s a testament to the job that Emery has done.

Look, I'm not mad at you, I just don't want you to get hurt when the disappointment of unrealistic expectations starts to hit.

This club with these owners will never do the kind of spending Utd did to reverse their course. You can bank on that.

If we farm Berg out on loan next season we will fuck up his ability to be registered as HG.

This is a good season to make him our 4th choice CM. He needs as many starts as he can get as his age. Otherwise we are going to curtail his development, which would be a sin against football, HG or not be damned.

This part of the problem with the club not being willing to spend to sufficiently on HG players- we end up asking kids to do both roles, and then the under-pressure manager never plays them because they don't think they are good enough, and then they stagnate for a few years and get sold to League 1 for 1m + sell-on. It's been incredibly stupid and counterproductive for us.
