Villa, Woolwich and Newcastle have had one season where they have looked better than us. Just one in about 7 years.

Let’s calm down a little bit.

The fact they went from being worse than us year after year after year and then got better in a bad year for us shows how quickly things can change in football.

You need to go back and look at the long term statistics, take a deep breath, and realise what the anomaly is. Clue: it was last season.
I don’t disagree with the sentiment here. Yes. They’ve had one season better than us.
However, they’ve addressed their glaring issues to get to that stage and have improved again over the summer.
We are still dithering with 2 weeks to a new season.
Maddison and Solomon do not address our defensive issues and whilst Hugo cost us some points last season, we could have had prime Buffon in goal and the clowns in front of him would have made him look shit.

.........And so you're saying if someone's starting bid is low that determines the market value and you should just take it?

BMs initial €70 bid for Kane is "market value"?

WHam should have accepted 80m-odd for Rice?

It's SUCH a good thing you aren't doing the negotiations.
Why are you comparing a sixth choice CM’er that no-one wants with the best 9 in the world and Declan Rice? Both are stellar players with desperate buyers jostling. Athletico and PEH aren’t comparable

Tapsoba and VdV aren't even that good (yet?), and we can't afford to sign both of them. We may eventually end up with one, at best.
Neither of their clubs have to sell. We don’t know what they’re asking. If they’re asking 50% above the player’s value then we might not want to buy at that price regardless of whether we can afford it.
Look at our Brennan Johnson links today. Because of the £50m price tag most of us said ‘fuck it’. Maybe BL are asking for an equally silly price for Tapsoba.

If the club have decided Tapsoba is their top target, they need to have some conviction and get it done
We don’t exactly know that. We may well have moved on given the non-updates we’re getting from Fabrizio Romano. We’re still getting reports linking us to Nelsson, Ibanez and Guehi amongst others. I’ve certainly not gone all in on a center half that I don’t watch regularly and who isn’t recognized as one of Germany’s best CBs. I just want a competent upgrade on Davies or Tanganga who can start at LCB and soon. We need to stop pfaffing around and make up our mind. My guess — and yours too, I reckon — is that the Harry Kane (non-) sale is going to determine which shelf we’re buying our CB from.

Dier has lost it. Too heavy, slow and his decision-making has slowed down too. I'd be happier with Tanaganga getting minutes in a high line over Dier.
In defence of Dier... Hang on now... If he wasn't instructed to back off and let others be proactive then the fact he kept being picked is unexplainable.

He was either following instruction and could be proactive or Conte needs to pay back his wages.

To repeat Chavs and PSG have controlling chairman, I think Poch wasn't that bothered about what input he has he just wanted the job. Just like when he was with us he accepted Fazio etc, eventually his frustration grew. I think to go to the blue scum he was very desperate to get back in work.
I once worked with a bloke who said ‘All three of my bosses were incompetent assholes’
Guess who the incompetent asshole was?

there have been no credible links to Nelsson or Ibanez.

Credible links for Spurs are generally Ali G, the Athletic beat reporters and Fab Romano.

The 2 main targets from credible sources have been 1. Tapsoba 2. VdV.

If they have some secret target not in the media then fair play but what we have been told by reliable sources are those are the 2 with Tapsoba #1

They’ve done well. I won’t deny that. But some posters have us down as a midtable club now which is not the case. Not yet anyway.

To come back to my initial point, I think personnel is part of the solution. Another part of the solution will be being better coached and keeping the ball further away from goal. That comes with its own risks but the last season is an exception and not the norm.

We are agreed.

Based on the tour and how quiet it's been since they got back this week, it doesn't come off like that's what is going on.

To be clear (as I'm sure you noticed) I'm not impatient as to expect that there can't be delays and roadblocks to x or y happening; but the feeling that there's not enough drive behind the scenes doesn't wash.

There's been a lot of crap to swallow over the last 6 months; at the very least the club ought to be busting a gut to make amends.

We are genuinely at risk of slipping further back into the chasing pack. We haven’t addressed the most key position(s).
Is Vicario a better keeper in the here and now than Hugo? Is he a top 4 keeper? Will he ever be?
The defence is a shambles. Players bought for a counter attacking system and then sack the manager in favour of an on the front foot attacking manager.
Our centre halves are a mish mash of catastrophes.
Even Romero is good for a suspension or two a season and that’s when he’s not saving himself for his country by being injured for his club.
It has been badly resourced. We have misfits for the wing back positions and rubbish in the middle of defence.
This is where we have gone wrong and no matter how hard we attack, there are teams who will rip through us at will. So unless it really is sustainable to simply outscore teams in the toughest league, then it’s going to be a rude awakening for Ange.
Last season May have been the exception. I’m worried it is going to be the same again because we aren’t addressing the biggest issues quickly enough to allow the new manager to work with the new players.

Ali G,the athletic beat reporters and Romano all talk shite too! Made up shite every day and sometimes one of these clowns will get it right!
I’m going to put something out saying Vlahovic is number one target if Kane goes and if it comes true does that mean I’m in the know?
Until a player walks in the door then nothing is believable. For every true scoop there’s 30 utter crap stuff! It would be interesting to write down every player these hacks have said we are interested in.
The fact that Mbappe was mentioned says it all.

Quite a lot of links in Turkish media concerning Nelsson and Spurs - latest I'm aware of says Galatasaray turned down an offer from Tottenham that involved an exchange of £12.9 million plus the Colombian centre-back Davinson Sanchez, which suggests Galatasaray prefer all cash of maybe £22m.

Galatasaray won the league with Nelsson as a right footed CB who prefers to play on the left, good at playing ball out rom back - player is very keen in the move.

Whether anything progresses from here I've no idea

I thought Spurs played Lion City Sailors on Wednesday so chances are they flew on Thursday meaning they might have been 'back in the office' today ?

So not sure why you can say 'how quiet it's been since they got back this week',

Sure I'd like some movement, but always suspected it would be next week rather than this week given them travelling this week

That wasn’t my point at all. Did you read the post?

The only remotely controversial bit should have been:

« I think the current players can do significantly better next year with some proper coaching. I’m confident we’ll concede less with a far more attacking style of play »

Everything else was either factual or me saying I want a LCB.

To reply to Hotspurpaul Hotspurpaul - I think the reaction to that post is testament to how unstable the fanbase is at the moment. It’s bad enough during a normal transfer window but people have lost their minds this year.
I did, but in the spirit of amity I went and read it again. It's still shit.* It still reads like you're defending our defenders. And that 'remotely controversial' bit is very controversial.

But, to be honest, you're right, now you've explained and I've re-read it several times, I can see it in the tone you meant it and it's not the high-as-fuck-on-copium comment I first read it as.

I think this might just be a 'read the room' moment. Imagine Levy coming in here and saying that line. He'd be lynched. We clearly don't want to hope for the best. We want to plan for the worst, we want the considerable finances (that we've raised between us) to be directed at solving clear and obvious problems.

*sorry, force of habit

Side note: I think any phrase like 'you lot', 'people on here' etc. is becoming a trigger. Not just for me.
