Stats related to turnover height etc for our EPL goals this season. I've added a count of number of defenders in the box a few seconds before the goal, and when it's scored, which gives an indication of a set defence vs on-the-break.

Some are a bit grey-area but I make it 4 set-piece goals, 7 from build-up against a more-or-less settled defence, 7 due to high turnovers, and 9 on the quick break / counter.

Decent read
Good article, and broadly where I am with Ange.

My basic concern is that our attack can be so effective (on occasion), because our defensive setup has previously been reckless. He’s taking with one hand to feed the other.

We’ve looked much better when injuries have forced us to drop deep and go more compact.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul, too-short blanket, hospital gown attack. I amazed that so many, including folks like bus-conductor bus-conductor are taken by this tactic. We saw a big name coach do this a few years ago...now he's at PSV I believe...Peter Bosz. He could overwhelm you in attack but the game was NEVER put to bed because the back door was always open.

Look forward to the field tilt stats from tonight! BC, let me have 'em!

Can't really argue with this analysis.

Nobody’s been taken in McT. When we were clocking up the unbeaten 10 at the start of last season and everyone was loving Big Ange instead, I was one of the few pointing out that we were riding some luck on the back door issues. Eventually you and the rest of the world caught up, even the proper football geezers could see it.

But as you know, because we spoken about it at length, privately, I’m ok with it for now for several reasons. One being that after years of dirge, it’s quite fun.

There’s no fraud with it, it is what it is, high risk. And I’m enjoying it right now, other opinions available etc.

I don’t believe there’s too many coaches out there that would be doing much better ppg with this bunch of misfits. Including your boy StPoch of Murica who’s back door was flapping even wider than Poch’s last year and who, just like Bosz has proven, he’s not so good when recruitment didn’t do the heavy lifting (sometimes Poch failed even when he had the recruitment doing the heavy lifting).

And despite the inherent risk and flaws, along with scoring more goals than anyone this year, our defensive metrics (including goals against) has improved from last year.

So for now, whilst not being delusional enough to believe Ange is the messiah, I’m ok with him until at least the end of this year - and maybe, as long as things don’t go totally to shit - probably one more season and transfer window before having a hard look at alternatives.

You have to cut your cloth accordingly and unfortunately imo we don't the quality of player throughout the squad to play controlled full on Ange -Ball. Needs taking down a notch to have any chance of bossing games consistently.

You flatter yourself, BC...and you know that's now true. Was on it from the fucking Brentford game that we should have lost...and that's from memory as that being the first game...without Toney and they still gave us hell.

You found reason in the Mou appt FFS! You were ok with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Self-serving take..."I don't think it can be improved right now so let's just keep doing it the way I like it being done...and while we're at it, ignore the losing and consistently inconsistent results and focus on these stats while I piss on your leg and tell you it's raining". Gotcha.
You barely accurately remember anything about his time with us...exemplified by your intentional and unintentional distortion of his record...so keep his goddamn name outta your mouth!!!!

You have no idea or recollection of his actual defensive work with us...and that's fact proven by your words and our convos. Leave it out lest I prove it.

Are there trophies for that?

Another fucking year of this nonsense?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Why not keep doing the same thing...it always ends with a different result, right? And we can always trust our work in the market, right? Because we have a brilliant track record of making good, better, right? And combine that with the kamikaze tactics and that's where the genius will happen?

This guy should get the year but he should show improvement in performance AND results...neither are there. Get Potter while he's out there...as least he can attack AND defend!

I Like Potter, as you know, I certainly wouldn’t complain if he was our next coach, but as for the rest, I refer you to my previous answer, it covers most of the bases I need covering, the rest is just your usual circle jerk of “look how clever I am” that gets nauseating after a few spins.

Run out of apology? You've only had 1 spin of 'how clever I am' today so your tummy shouldn't be aching quite yet...ball, not man, BC. You're just arguing a loser, BC...and in the process giving others cover to argue the same nonsense...to the detriment, I feel, of the club. Just like those that argued for HK continuation...or for Dele years beyond his usefulness. It's getting pretty clear Ange might be in over his head. Can he adapt? Not so far. Will he? That's why give him THIS year.

When Redknapp performed similarly you took him to task but now with Ange we should consider giving him another year...and more money? I'm flabbergasted! Perhaps he wins something and gets us CL...THEN there'd be an argument. But even then the bold move would be to get rid and get someone that doesn't sacrifice soundness for 'entertainment' as they need not be mutually exclusive. That would be making good, better because Ange's ceiling is pretty clear for all to see...if one's eyes are open to see it.
