Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Not a fan of Kudus. The club is in a really bad habit of overpaying for overpriced lower-midtable fowards once a year:
- Richarlison in 2022
- Johnson in 2023
- Solanke in 2024
- Kudus in 2025

This hasn’t really worked for us yet so I’ve no idea why we’re continuing with it.

Kudus has always looked like a sheer force of nature whenever I have seen him, he would certainly improve out attacking options. He is kind of the anti-Brennan as a RW option, which would work for our squad versatility.

With that being said, I would still prefer Eze.

100%. What annoys me is the sheer distaste a portion of our fan base (never mind football in general) have towards our academy players and the desire to spend money like it's some sort of dick enlargement.

It's bonkers to consider our greatest player of the PL era was an academy lad and one of our own. "Hahaha yeah like we have an academy full of Kanes" I anticipate as the retort - but none of the people who would suggest that, and very, very, few of our fans would have given Kane the benefit of doubt over signing some other £40m striker.

Having to sign other team's players at top prices is a sign of a shit football club if you ask me. It isn't something to aspire to or be proud of unless you're a bit weird and think a transfer window is something to be won. A good club would be like Barca were a decade or two ago, with La Masia erupting with talent in every position. Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique, Valdes, Alba. We should have local lads in our team who are part of the club's DNA.

I saw a stat, and it sounds correct but I haven't validated it - United have had an academy player in every matchday squad for the past 80 years. Fans should be embarrassed that they have to sign players because they don't generate any decent ones, rather than lusting after the next mercenary who doesn't give a shit about our club unless there's a benefit to it
Couldn’t agree more. All
I hear is our academy players have to go on loan to get minutes. All the while players similar in age who we purchase for big fees can stay and play in our first team.

We've given some short shrift to the odd academy kid at the margin over the last decade, but it is just a cold, unfortunate fact that basically zero PL quality has come out of our youth ranks since Kane. Winks was there for a year or two then rapidly receded.

A coach believing in him isn't the difference between KWP and Pedro Porro, or between Tanganga and Romero, or between Marcus Edwards and Maddison. They simply aren't good enough, and the team would suffer enormously to pretend otherwise.

problem is, bournemouth are not selling. they just sold their entire defense, sold solanke last year. they are not selling semenyo. we are just taking advantage of west ham finances to get kudus
I'm never sure what to believe about transfer rumors. Players agents play teams off against each other and I'd imagine teams use rumors about signing particular players as a way to put pressure on other teams they are dealing with. Spurs just need to get it right. If they can't reach any of the wings they are interested in they can always keep Son around until the winter transfer window and see what happens.

Which is all well and good, but Kane looked no better than most of them until he suddenly broke through. Even ex players from that time (Van der Vaart) have said he looked awful in training, too.

I don't think these players will ever look magically good enough until they've played a few competitive senior games

How clever is Levy, really? Sanctioning this lot as 20 most expensive signings ever.

I reckon the ones with a 5 stars next to them have justified/paid back their fee, 3 stars have been ok, but probably inconsistent with it. The rest, waste of money.

  • Dominic Solanke: £65 million 3*
  • Tanguy Ndombele: £63 million --
  • Richarlison: £60 million --
  • Brennan Johnson: £47.5 million 3*
  • Cristian Romero: £42 million 5*
  • Davinson Sanchez: £42 million --
  • James Maddison: £40 million 3*
  • Pedro Porro: £40 million 3*
  • Micky van de Ven: £34.5 million 5*
  • Moussa Sissoko: £31.5 million --
  • Giovani Lo Celso: £28.8 million --
  • Steven Bergwijn: £26.7 million --
  • Bryan Gil: £22.5 million --
  • Heung-min Son: £22 million 5*
  • Kieran Trippier: £20 million 3*
  • Roberto Soldado: £26 million --
  • Erik Lamela: £25.7 million 3*
  • Nacer Chadli: £22 million --
  • Ryan Sessegnon: £25 million --
  • Sergio Reguilón: £26 million --
Only 3 top quality signings based on value and performances, plus 6 that have done ok, or ok so far.

Not a great way to spend money, is it?

How are we so bad at signing players / spending money?

I mean, KWP and Tanganga got at least that. Skipp got far more than that. Their careers have revealed their level.

The truth is that Kane, from age 20, always looked promising in his appearances for Tottenham and FORCED his way into the PL first XI at 21 with his goalscoring in cup games. He was even quite successful in his loan spells when you consider his age and the fact that he wasn't really being played as a number 9. Millwall YPOY and all that.

The "no one thought Kane could play" thing is largely a product of his failed loan to Norwich as a 19 year old in the Premier League. Which, sure, fair enough, he did fail there, but the existence of a Premier League loan for a 19 year old indicates the esteem in which he was already held.

No Premier League team is interested in signing Damola Ajayi on loan.

Chadli joined for £7.8mil, got double digit goals and was sold for a profit
