There wasn't a premiership back then, an we were actually quite good. I can't remember who took the league but Villa ended above us iirc.

The league was generally weaker, but the competition was tighter and the gap to the second devision was not that large.

87 was the last season we were competitive before ENIC came along ...


EDIT: fuck; you might be right. It might have been harder to win the FA cup final pre-92 than it was to win the EL last year! And to think 87 was the first final in nine that we lost!

I'm by no means belittling our cup win last year; just realizing how times have changed.

We didn't win the cup in 87.

But I'm not sure Barnsley, Birmingham, Cambridge, West Ham, and losing to Woolwich is a more glamorous list that the one you mentioned.
(basically only beat one top flight side, West Ham, who finished 15th in Div 1)

We were in the champions league final a few years back and challenging for title. Its doable with right manager and of course if levy backs the manager. Virtual miracle imo poch with his creativity to get us so close with no stadium and couldnt spend for 2 years. Im hoping franks intelligence can make us elite again.

A little bit before my time, though my old man went to every single game, home and away, that season, and raised me on the stories of those greats. I'm sure I've said it before, I was a Spurs fan before I really knew what Football was all about.

I can still remember him telling me the story of when Mackay came back from his second broken leg and threw himself into a tackle. The old man said you could hear a pin drop in the stadium when he did, then see the roof lift after he got up unhurt.

We were reminiscing on those stories just a couple of weeks ago.

Not sure what Dibling offers us. He was struggling to start for Southampton last year so I imagine he's not ready yet..and is he definitely a better prospect than Tel, Odobert and Moore? I'm not certain he is. And we really need to stop buying potential. We just lost a club legend. Let's bring in someone who's ready to start now

The poll is accurate insofar as it replicates the general feeling amongst the fanbase that it is time to go for both Levy and ENIC and I'd be surprised if they themselves are not feeling similar.

Although being of the opinion it's time for a change I refuse to be placed in the same category as the 'Levy/ENIC out' brigade or their oppo's who drink at the 'ln' at the Lane establishment.

Got no problem with the 'outs' or the 'ins' who attend games, protest, rant on forums etc so long as they endeavour to combine all three....but those who do nothing other than bitch online are not worth a wank imo and instead of spending so much time scrutinising what goes on at our Club should spend it looking in the mirror.

You might well be right and maybe that's the correct strategy as we do need to give these guys a clear passage. I just wonder if letting Moore go on loan might open the door to us trying to get someone like Grealish in on loan.

I feel like we are very short if we are relying on Tel and Odobert to play there all season
