Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

How does selling Romero and Bentancur improve the first team? Bringing in better players than those two will cost a King's ransom.

You have missed the point - which is we need to be better at selling players. Over the last 5 years we have a NET spend of over £500m. That is mainly because, Kane apart, we have not sold anyone for a decent fee. We keep players like Ndombele, Reguillon, Gil around until they leave on free transfers.

Romero reportedly wants out. He has 2 years left, and is entering peak years a sa World Cup winner. So we should sell him this window (if he will not extend). Selling Romero (£60m) and Dragusin (£20m) means could buy Huijsen - 20 years old (competition for Danso) and Esteve - 22 years old (competition / back up for VdV), making us stronger overall at the same time.

Selling Richarlison to buy Rory Delap - 22 years old (competition for Solanke). Delap reportedly has a £30M release clause. We can get £30m for Richarlison IMO.

If Bentancur won't sign a new contract (1 year left) would you rather lose him for nothing next summer than selling him now for £20m and bringing in Johnny Cardoso - 23 years old? Cardoso fee is already agreed for £25m as part of the Lo Celso deal.

Reduces age of squad. Offloads unhappy players.

Bentancur needs to be extended. Romero is more difficult, but getting him to sign a new contract should be our starting position.
I am a massive Romero fan, and if he we can get him to commit to a new deal then that would be the best outcome. But if he is agitating for a move, let's sell. Next year is a world cup year. I do not think he will be very focused for us if we make him stay another year.

But you have put in the point I was making when you say "if they won't sign extensions". If they really want out then I agree, it is the bit about saying we should sell them anyway that I disagree with.

The secret to running a successful club is finding the right players to buy and knowing when it’s the right time to sell your existing players. Romero may well be our best player, but if his focus is elsewhere we have to sell for top dollar.

I feel like at the moment we have a lot of good but average players. Now Kane is gone and Son is getting old we have no ‘worldies’. Solanke is a great player for instance but not someone who has Madrid or Barcelona drooling. VDV, Cuti, Udogie all great players but not forwards unfortunately. Bergvall, Gray, Tel, et al great potential but not the finished item. We need that Bale, Klinsman, Van der Vaart, Modric genius.
Blow the budget now on just one new star

I do not agree that Richy was bought to replace Kane. He was bought to supplement Kane and Son in Conte's system so those two did not get burnout. A big wage player would not have come to sit on the bench. The fact that a year later when Kane left, we did not buy another CF meant fans thought Richy was his replacement.

If you understand the way Levy works, it’s pretty clear Richy was the start of planning for life without Kane.

This. It is why Brighton function so well. They know when to sell (which is helped by always having a succession plan for every player). Dortmund were also great at this up until a few years ago, and have slipped in the BL since.

Hell, it isn't even about selling for big fees. It is about knowing when to sell a player so you can get at least a decent fee.

This is what Fabio/Lange/whoever has to take charge of and establish. We need a sporting plan that does include selling players with some regularity. Because we know that the ownership will not supplement us with their own money.

You posted 2 of my quotes without a comment so there’s nothing there for me to reply to but what part of I’m saying are you struggling to understand RealCoolYid RealCoolYid ?
I’m struggling to understand how you don’t see you’re own obvious contradiction and the mockery it makes of your original post
