Amazing how he doesn't play or come on and sees the shit in defence. Wasn't the worst error Monday and he should have played yesterday.

Yep Toby should have played CB and Davies should have played LWB instead of Doherty. I bet Toby felt horrible watching that car crash yesterday. Ugh...

He should start on Sunday but what happened on Monday won't impress Mourinho
That wycombe striker absolutely spun Toby saying that..

I tend to find that all good defenders struggle when they play lower league opposition. Their forward playres tend to be the type that are just very strong and good at winning stuff in the air . This doesn't happen a lot if at all in the Premier league so you tend to see Premier league players struggling against this for whatever reason.

I don't think he's as good as he was consistently like a few years ago but he's still our best defender and should be the no1 first choice cb.

and like any other good CB they would be even better with someone of the same quality next to him. hes working with donkeys
Shame what happened with verts as that was such a good combination at the back. Neither sanchez or dier are anywhere near half the talent he had and he really still needs to be replaced.

awesome partnership that was. yes its a shame, he does need to be replaced. would love to have him as our third choice CB. thats the sort of level we need to be aiming for. our defence is riddled with donkeys

If he was the 3rd choice to play alongside young (well in Rodon's case youngish) guys like Rodon and Tanganga in Cup and European games, while filling in for injuries or poor form from our top two guys that would be perfect.

Unfortunately that means bringing in two new CB's because guys like Dier, Sanchez and Rodon aren't close to being good enough to start. Unlikely that we do that and unlikely we sell Jose's golden boy Dier either.

its unfortunate but its the reality, dier and sanchez are no where near good enough to be first choice CBs in a team going for top 4 let alone a title. we had two CBs ahead of toby we would have a quality defence...even with shit or shitter at RB

I am not sure what we could get for Sanchez and Dier, obviously not what Levy would want, although I think that Dier could fool someone into overpaying with him playing for England.

Watching Leicester how awesome would it be to have say Soyuncu (19 million) and Fofana (30 million) ahead of Toby, Rodon and Tanganga?

That is not too much money and now we not only have a big upgrade but some young guys as well. Probably could sell Rodon as well with that type of set up.

I know many will want us to go for the big money (40-50 million) guys but there is no reason we can't remake the CB group by selling Sanchez/Dier and using that money to buy quality players.

If we keep 4 CBs, you would want one top quality that can lead the defence, another with potential, Toby and Rodon. Worst pairing would be Toby+Rodon.

Should be able to get rid of one of Dier and sanchez each summer. The failure to sell dead weight is a big problem.

He really doesn't trust his legs anymore.

One of his best traits was how he would always take the ball down on his chest and calm things down before finding a pass whereas now his first instinct is to hoof it or head it clear unless there is no one anywhere near him. It adds to the uncertainty in our defence.

A drop off is expected at this stage in a career but still sad to see.

Yeah remember watching Jan his season before last for us and Hugo played the ball out to him - he played it in front of him - but then watched jan really struggle to catch up to it before it went out.

Was obvious watching his body language that he just knew the pace he had before wasn’t there anymore.

Quite honestly no point of blaming Toby.
And no point blaming Sanchez.

Our defense was thoroughly crap (including those 2 as well :D ) .

Davies was incapable to shut down attacks and play good forward passes as well.
Very surprisingly the least bad was Doherty...

But to concede 5 goals in the game... this has to be last time we saw Toby+Sanchez CB for quite some time!

It's interesting how with many footballers the legs go almost always at the 30/31 age.

In a lot of other sports you're hitting your prime at that age. Athletics for example a lot of sprinters and runners are still near their peak at that age I know people will point to steroids, drugs etc but you do wonder why a footballer would lose pace at a relatively young age.

I wonder how many football clubs hire Athletics coaches? If a footballer's level is dependent on his ability to run, it would make sense to have access to specialists in running surely?
