Meh.....

1 person complaining about X and another person doing Y is not double standards just cos it happened in the same space.

Sure we have people here that denigrate the players in an unwarranted (perhaps similar) fashion, but a) they're not the kind one expects to then call out situs such as the current one and b) some people DO call them out.
Meh! It is what it is. I have my views. I was not offended because nothing does. It is double standards because some get offended by a flippant dementia comment but will then go and call Hojbjerg a cunt. It’s not a big deal as was the original comment.

I wasn't singling you out I was just replying to your post. The "you" was the collective you. I apologise if you think I was.

But again, there's a whole world of difference between calling someone a cunt and saying someone has dementia. Or a retardation. Or a special need and so on. You are calling their cognitive function into question. I can assure you that no sane individual on this forum will take offence to you calling a player a name if you don't like them.

The parallel would be saying "fucking Hoijberg must have dementia with all that backwards passing and pointing has he forgot how to play football".

Nobody says that. They just don't like him and the style of play and say he's shit or a cunt. It's absolutely not even the same thing. Sure it's not particularly mature and still unkind but it's not remotely the same thing.

It's because people can associate personally with specific terms. It's exactly the same with labelling something a "cancer", etc.

If you have a member of your family who has dementia the last thing you would do is ridicule it

Really needs it’s own thread though as we’re supposed to be talking about yesterday’s game!

Levy I'm begging you buy someone anyone!! Or this place will look like Arkham asylum.

No slight was intended on the inmates of Gothams Arkham asylum many of whom( like Killer Croc) had troubled childhoods, and require understanding for their offending and such like.

My mum has dementia now forgets names, birthdays, how to find TV channels, what day it is but seems to always know how Spurs got on!

I find that it’s the short term memory that goes first

You can say something and about 15 mins later you get asked the same question whereas they can still remember events from their childhood

A good friend of mine died from the disease last year and it wasn’t easy seeing him go down and down but occasionally the mist used to clear and you saw his old mischievous self!

His wife still not over it but we help when we can
