Where do we finish in this comp?

Listen. I'll keep this short and sweet because I've had around 8 beer

We are 4-1 up away at Ipswich. We would have lost this game of we'd a European game midweek. There is your evidence!

No European football and we've a fit and fresh team every weekend and it is worth well over 10 points across this season. This season where we've also been balancing an injury crisis it's probably worth 20+ points.

If you can't see that then I can't help you. That's just how I see it and why I'm not panicking about our league form this season
Look mate. If we can’t compete in both cups and the league then what the fuck is the point of the football club. Our ambitions must include cup runs. It’s that simple. When you haven’t won a trophy in nearly 20 years, you have to prioritize cups.

Winning the Europa League gets us in the CL and much more likely than making up the 13 points on Chelsea who are currently 6th. Money from next year's CL trumps the extra PL money this season. Also gets a trophy a feat that has been missing since 2008.
You sound like Levy more interested in the money than Glory.
Yes, as long as we make the last 16.
Not a huge difference to the Europa league at the group stage now I think.
Not to mention, greedy bollocks would have to add some proven quality to the squad to actually compete in it.

I'm only speculating what I think the boards priority is tbh. In seasons gone, definitely Champions League. But I'm no longer convinced they'd push the boat out to get in it, compete in it and stay in it.

As far as Ange's future here is concerned, he can't afford to let the league campaign go in its entirety by putting all his eggs in EL basket. Because in such a scenario, if he for whatever reason fails to win EL he would have no ground left to stand on. Definitely a high reward, but one that comes with a very high risk. I know he's not the most risk averse person in general, but he'd still be better off with a more balanced allocation of resources between those two campaigns. Whatever that entails in practice.

So the way I see it, his self-interest does not perfectly align with what would be the best for the fans and the club in general. Unless he has some sort of a guarantee that he's here next season no matter what, I'd be shocked to see him throw league matches away by sitting most of his regulars.

I must admit, considering you have had 8 pints your typing is not slurred at all.👏👏

Our best interests ARE to keep going in the PL as well as EL.

Too many fans seem to regard EL as a lottery ticket they picked up in the street which they hope will guarantee them a zillion winnings and therefore throw up their job and wages.

Better to keep the day job as well as enter the lottery of EL win where atm, any analysis show we have maybe a 1 in 4 or similar chance of winning, which is good but far from certain.

Yeah sure, but you're overlooking a possible trade-off here that many people seem to be wary of. You might find these concerns related to health and fatigue overblown, a reflection of the recent injury crisis that won't happen again, but IF the trade-off exists then what? Which competition would you prioritize?

Partially due to how big of a trophy EL is in general, but also because of our current trophy drought, many here don't seem to have much problem going for a home run in EL at the expense of letting league go altogether. It might not be representative of every single fan, but that's what I was referring to.

With a decent squad sized squad, which when we have our injured players back, we have, we will doubtless play a strong team in EL, but no need not to put out a competitive team in PL as we have enough players.

There are always a few fans who focus exclusively on the last couple of results, ignoring what's best in the long term. Generally they'll always demand whoever they think is the strongest 11 to start regardless of whether some need a rest. Other fans will look at the short, medium and long term when appreciating (or otherwise) the team chosen

Yeah and tbf if we hadn't had around 10 injuries for almost 3 months while playing in all 4 competitions then we probably could have challenged for all 4. But it was impossible playing every 3 days with only 13 or 14 senior players available. that 15 game spell with forster in goals was tenches. Circumstances killed us.

Hopefully in 2 years we'll get it right. Next year we probably won't have europe so will be easy to go well in the league

Shaky? Fair play, not had any hit records for a few years now

With all the defensive woes Spuurs have and there are a few (understatment) hopefully on the mend. The thing that Spurs can do in this comp over two legs with a fully fit team is score big in one of those legs.

People are judging Spurs attack against PL standard. None Spurs are playing in this comp are coming from week in week out PL standard. For this reason it is why Spurs are at least equal favorite.

Spurs are a heavy handed boxer with questionable fitness and ring craft. It just isn't going to the score cards at least until the final. Whoever Spurs play in the two legs I give Spurs a very real chance of sparking their opposition in at least one leg. It's better to have the punching power than not.

If Spurs win this thing it wont be without plenty of drama and a touch of a little luck. However they have a real hope of winning it!

1000 % agree .

Winning the Europa League: wins us a competition ( oh and a trophy to take home and keep ; for whatever that’s “ worth “ these days) .

Many on here seem to know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Trust me the Club isn’t going bankrupt anytime soon .

As a fan, I’d love to remove the “empty trophy case” slurs against us. If we finish 12th versus 9th in the PL, will anyone even remember in 2 years.

That said, keep players fresh for EL <> playing a B squad in PL. Rotate as we’ve done the last 2 weeks will suffice.

Tbf we are in the last 16 in Europe; made a semi-final in EFL Cup only going out to the best team in the country while missing 12 players.

The only Cup we've bombed out to was FA Cup away to Villa with most of our first choice defence AND first choice attack missing.

Given our dreadful league season it's probably fair to say we have been prioritizing cups. But it's the league position that the manager will be judged on you'd expect.

Surely with everyone fit (plus the two additions in Jan) we have enough to compete in two comps?

As long as we don’t start Son twice a week, rotate porro Spence and udogie adequately, rotate vdv Romero and Danso, not make solanke play every single minute we should be ok?

When all fit we have strong attacking options to rotate between son, odobert, solanke, tel, Johnson, Moore and even Richarlison. Bar Moore in the prem I think the rest can all start in the prem and do a good job.

Midfield we can rotate kulu and Maddison at 10, bergvall and Sarr at 8, bentacur and bissouma at 6 without diluting the quality too much.

Vicario/kinksy
Porro/spence
Romero/danso
Vdv/davies/gray
Spence/udogie

Bentacur/biss
Bergvall/sarr
Maddison/kulu

Johnson/kulu/tel
Solanke/tel/richarlison
Son/odobert/tel/moore

That’s plenty strong enough with adequate rotation for both comps. Just keep everyone fresh, don’t play with biss and sarr starting together as it doesn’t work, and I think we are looking strong.
