Management Where do we go from here?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The pressing system can't yield long term success at THFC. It can't even manage it a Liverpool.
Even City at one point looked to wobble.

I would love if we couldn't manage it all the way to a CL title, PL title, 2nd place finish, another CL final and a season in which we remain competitive in the CL and PL despite massive injuries.

My guess is most people will handle that kind of terrible results that are too hard to manage.

Why does it have to be a silver bullet? Everything doesn't have to be solved in one move. Getting in a new manager who plays a style that better uses our players is a positive step, but doesn't need to be the only move. There is no rule that says you can only bring in a new manager and not do anything with the players.

And why would Kane and Son not listen to the ex-Brighton manager? Is there some evidence that they are cunts who think they are better than the team or manager?

And if we do need to tear it down it seems like it would be much better to do that with a new manager than to do it with Jose.

Yep but you and above are both right in your slightly separate approach and thinking.

I just want to add - bringing Jose is about as high-profile we could have gone and also go from here

The next manager will be in the Poch / Rodgers bracket - Tier 2 or 3 at most. No Tier 1 manager will ever come to us after this

Mourinho was a Tier 1 manager up to about a decade ago. He might still be viewed as Tier 1 in terms of name recognition and profile but in terms of what he offers as regards coaching and managing, he’s about Tier 3 standard now and has been for a while.

You've missed my point.
We just about managed to get to that final and a few top 4 finishes before our players passed their peak fitness years and fell off a cliff.
City just buy new ones and throw their old toys away.
Liverpool have fall off a cliff now and can't just buy new toys.
We're on the same level as Liverpool. They just managed to get over the lines we didn't before they peaked and went over.

Where do we go?

First we relieve the manager.

Then we politely tell the 5-8 first team players with huge discrepancy between [performance] vs [costs] that they will not play again and should comply in agreeing to moves. These players are being removed instantly from all first team affairs right away.

Thirdly we fill up the squad with the best youth players, even in daily training.

Fourth we appoint an interim, head coach who has *no* pressure in any competition. Just needs to develop and steady out best players while integrating the best youth players.

All this while identifying the kind of future manager we want and get him signed nice and quietly before the summer.

At the start of the window he will be at a go signing his players, if not before.

Jose will win some random games, play well every 3,4 games and come up with just enough soundbites. The summer will bring another Bergwijn, another Doherty and one or 2 Gelson's. Loads of talk of turning a corner. Perhaps even signing a very highly rated 16-18 yo. ... and then, at the first game of the new season, the same old team will trot out, looking absolutely knackered while setting the same low block that Jose insists we never want to play. And if Erik Lamela isn't yet again being paid 100k to sit on the bench, it's because he is injured. Again

were you drunk when you typed that?
I could hear my dictionary crying whilst I read it

Fall off a cliff?

They are still in the CL and are doing "poorly" because of massive injuries in one specific part of the team.

I would love to hear how their pressing led to injuries to their CB's and the guy that they added in the summer.

The difference between City and the rest is they can spend their way out it.

The reasons it can't work at Spurs are many, but here's some
1) It relies on extreme fitness. Once players get to their later 20's they need to be replaced. Kane, Son etc would have to be moved on for younger players who can keep up
2) Because we wouldn't buy ready made players, the ones we bring in would need to be brought up to speed
3 Because of 2, we'll always be in a state of building for the future

No system works indefinitely, that's why managers reigns are shorter these days.

Funny then that 2 of the longest serving managers in recent times have been Klopp and Pochettino- who are known for playing pressing football

Unless we go out of the Europa thursday, I think Mourinho is here to the end of the season. Things change fast in Football, Arteta & Solskjaer were goners earlier in the season, Mourinho a few weeks ago and now Klopp is vulnerable. Yes losing yesterday and the manner of losing reflects poorly on Mourinho but I do not see it as terminal with us still in 2 cups.

They don't have to sell. They could choose a different direction. One where Levy isn't god.
He's holding us back. And as long as he continues to do what he does, we will always end up 2nd best (8th) to the big hitters in the league.
I think we need a DoF, but the reality is we had one before and the results really weren't better.

Our most successful period in the past 30 years was with heavy handed Levy running the show and Pochettino with a "Head Coach" title. The club's run of form since Poch was upgraded thru Mourinho's tenure isn't likely to give Levy motivation to take a step back. If anything I expect he'll take a bigger role, post-Jose.

I was really dissapointed with certain players yesterday who have been very good recently.

Kane , Bale , Ndombele and Hojbjerg sucked yesterday.

That's why I struggle to work out what I want going forward. All 4 are part of our first XI and are vital clogs of it.
I'd love to say just 1 bad game but its a derby ffs. This shouldn't happen.

I'm sort of done with this season and just looking forward to the summer and a new season.
Perhaps we need a bunch of new players or perhaps its not the players and its the dinosaur in charge. Issues everywhere.

Nailed it.

some of the ways Jose plays our players is beyond shit. We have to try and keep the below they are either very good or have some talent that if used properly could do well for us. Keep them and add a few defenders and the squad is fine, sell some deadwood to pay for it.

Try and keep

Ndombele
Lo Celso
Regulion
Kane
Son
Bale
Lucas
Bergwijn
PEH
Rodon

I’d probably add some others as well that could still be useful.

Skipp
Vinnie
Aurier (least as back up)
Sanchez (ok with a decent partner not Dier)
Lloris
Dele

Let’s get rid of Mourinho first, and let the next manager decide on the players.

We really are done with him, no victories against a top half team since November is just laughable. Some may argue with this squad but not good enough to beat a top half team at least once?

That‘s a fookin joke.
