Well Aston Villa fans might disagree. The fact that the whistle was blown meant VAR "couldn't" overturn the decision and let the goal stand.Whether it was the lines-man better known today as the (assistant-ref),or indeed the referee “proper” or the bloke watching on a monitor in the VAR room - is neither here nor there. The officials officiate don’t they?
Let be fair to the referees (said no-one ever) this is a big change for them and they need to start learning how VAR will actually help them. Look at the Rugby process - let the game continue and let the process decide after the fact. It might mean that they don't look complete tools when they make terrible decisions.
Plus - and I think this is a major one - retrospective cards both during and after the game - oh yes, I'm picking you directly out of that line-up Mr Sokratis.
