I'm no fan of Ahabs posting content but fundamentally he's not far off the mark in my experience. I have no memory of a team being consistently successful by being relentlessly negative in their approach to playing football. All of the teams that have become consistent winners have been attack minded possession dominating sides that have ruthlessly crushed the opposition and dominated the game (domestically) for long periods. Liverpool, Leeds, Man Utd, City, Woolwich etc all did it with powerful possession based football. The only exception I can think of were Leicester and everyone agrees they were a fluke who flared and fizzled out .
Playing Russian roulette based defensive football based on the chamber dropping in our favour, for a breakaway shot to the other teams head can only last so long before our luck runs out, because, like Russian roulette it's no way to live. It must be incredibly draining on the nerves and from a support POV its god awful to watch. It's no more enjoyable than watching a boxer take a beating round after round and seeing him (or her nowadays) grab a lucky win with a wild haymaker.
All this Poch v Mou argument is pointless now. We are where we are, and we are all Spurs fans and we all celebrate Spurs wins, and we are all chuffed that we sit at the top after beating the financially doped oil barons. If we win the league playing like this. I'm going to celebrate us being the champions. No fucking doubt about it, and I wont care if it is by goal average based on a goal scored in the last minute that goes in off Sissoko's arse.
But I'm not going to lie.
I would much prefer it to have been a Spurs team playing the game the way that Spurs side that Poch managed - that ripped the league up with scintillating possession based dominating football - with a fabulous defence and an attack that scored goals for fun.
