Player Heung-Min Son (손흥민)

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Son always has and always will be a limited player.

Poor touch, can't pass and cant beat his fullback consistently enough.

What he has is a great strike on either foot and a good work ethic that's about the sum total of it.

Can't recall a worse run of form than this for him though. Could be fading time to cash in.
Completely agree with this and I think Levy will. He is going to free up funds and simply can't afford to lose Kane. Son has been poor since Christmas.

Not too keen on the crocodile tears after the game.

An experienced player, 29 years old crying like a baby after losing a league cup final isn't a great look IMO. Maybe being a bit tougher mentally would help him play better in big games.
Maybe I’m ready too much into it, him being emotional is definitely what affects his lack of consistency.

He has had many games like this, but the most recent example is Southampton last Wednesday. He was dreadful for most of the match, he found it hard to the basics, once he scored the goal despite it being ruled offside, he starts taking on players, attempts passes that aren’t backwards or sideways, and has the confidence to take a good pen.

This is just the most recent example, but if you look back to past matches where he’s scored, his performance before and after scoring is night and day. We’ve got to be honest, if Son isn’t scoring, he’s not offering much else. The only match I remember him contributing to while not scoring was Everton FA Cup match, even then, that was mostly from his corners.

Load of crap.. he had the most assists of any of our players last season and the 2nd most assists this season. Yet you are choosing to ignore that and say he doesn't offer anything other than his goals.

Sure.. but there is a guy on 200k a week that didn’t play for even 1 second today.. and another guy getting over 500k a week (not all from us but still) and he came on as a sub.

Looking at their salaries is a very simplistic way of looking at things.
The guy on 500k a week should have started as I've maintained all day. But it's ok to continually justify Sons wages cos he pipes his eyes when we get beat in finals.

he's been horrendous in 2021

you realize there comes a point in every players career where their form/quality deteriorates - this might be that time for son unfortunately

a lot of top wingers who rely on their pace have hit a wall at 29/30 years of age

Maybe.. but both parties have to be willing. He will not want to go backwards.. so he would only go to a club that is at least as good as Spurs.. if not better, that has a chance of winning trophies.

Haha.. clear signs of deterioration when it's his best season yet in terms of goal contributions. I agree that the past couple of months haven't been that great. But I put that more down to our terrible tactics.
uhh no he was terrible today and has been terrible for about 4-5 months now. can't make 3-5 yard passes.

lucas and bale have had more goal contributions per min than son in 2021 which is saying something given they aren't full time starters

he's our attacking version of harry winks, full of back/side passes.

Sure, but assist can be pretty deceiving. Son is our main corner taker, so he might have a few assists there. He can put in a decent cross every now and then as well. I’d love to be proven right, but I don’t remember any of Son’s assist coming from what I’d call a “great” pass.

Pertaining to the part that I bolded, you have to admit his impact on the ball is minuscule. He’ll get a decent shot off at times, but he never takes on fullbacks nor is he confident in his passing, for him it’s often backwards or sideways.

I love all the comment I've been seeing from the Son fan club recently, "Spurs made Sonny cry", "Son must move on to win trophies".

Lads I'm in total agreement if he keeps playing like that then he should fuck off!
