Amazes me that the ones that aren't would want to be associated with those that are.

One of the down sides of holding any sort of right wing view is adjacency to the crazies and racists on the fringe.

I think 5+5=10, some loon thinks 3*Z=10, obviously we didn't journey to the answer together.

Such is life, a moron standing next to you doesn't mean you hold the same views. It's an important subtlety but one that's missed (usually) on purpose to undermine a particular viewpoint. The irony of course, is that if you look at the manifestos of the BNP, EDL etc, you'll actually find they're often very left wing in nature.

Another reason why people like myself stick at points like these, is that this recent phenomenon of conformity and agree with me or else attitude, particularly prevalent amongst younger demographics is the absolute fucking worst. It's the opposite of critical thinking and where I want our society to go. Many of our forbearers died so we wouldn't have to endure this shit, yet here it is anyway.

I'd add, I think the term "right-wing" or the supposed opposite "left-wing" are totally lost in any translation on what it is they are representing. Is it political or ideology or blatant discriminative agendas. The truth I think is that across the spectrum of human beings it's all fucking three.

Racism shouldn't be political (obviously I get that it is if it actually forms the backbone of the manifesto of a party then it is) it boils down to plain old common decency and appropriate unbiased education (another complication to that of course brings us back to education isn't perhaps unbiased whether that's conscious or unconscious).

I've been called a "leftie" in the last couple of days? Absolutely no one knows my political views, I've not made a single reference to them in all the years I've been on here. I can only deduce from that that those making up these facts see themselves as "right-wing". as they oppose me. But is that a right-wing Conservative Party (posts of Priti Patel for some absolutely inexplicable reason have been posted might suggest this is the case). Or is it a jack-booted, Nazi saluting racist party??? Given the dialogue over the past couple of days can you make that distinction?

I don't give two fucks about who someone votes for. I do care about matters of injustice and discrimination. I've not seen a mainstream party that doesn't have this in written within their manifestos, so to reiterate I don't give two fucks what political persuasion someone is as a direct consequence to how/how they vote.

IMO political parties shouldn't be "supported" like football teams, they should be held to account if they are shit by those that voted for them and those that opposed them. If they are fucking shit then they should be replaced by an administration that competent. I don't care if this is a traditional "left or right-wing" party, in this country, there's practically little to separate them in any case.

But back to your point, I don't mind admitting that if a Political Party whose manifesto I quite liked was the "go-to" Party of racists and bigots as their voter base, there is no way in hell am I'm voting for that Party. This could be either a traditional left or right party.

The thing is in this country we don't have the worry of having to vote for a Pol Pot, Hitler or Mao. Yet the way politics is now "supported" and spun you really have to pinch yourself as some would have you believe that Johnson goose-steps the corridors of Number 10, whilst Corbin (I'm not up to speed with the take on Starmer) is handing out Mao's Little Red Book. This countries politics is just about as middle of the road as you can possibly get.

I've no idea if that's a good or bad thing, I haven't even contemplated that thought beyond this response.

I do now however place at the top of my list (UK Politics) the Character of the candidates. This comes before policy and ideology (I never used to do this as it was always drummed into me that the issue was more important than the personality). But a candidate may well change his or her position on, say, the NHS or the Syria conflict, whatever. But he or she cannot change the fact that they are pathological liars, incompetent, or just an arsehole.

We aren't choosing between Hitler vs Mao, we are choosing whether or not we have a competent individual who ensures the Health Service has PPE in stock. Whether schools have books. ALL sides lie about how they get PPE and schools books on the shelves, they ALL disappoint, break or fail to deliver on their manifestos.

I'll end now as we are miles off-topic. Suffice to say that on my good character checklist Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Corbyn and Jonhson don't pass the test.
