looks like chelsea dominated. i'd expect that to change somewhat with ndombele and gio in MF
We will not dominate against many teams with those forwards. Three runners upfront (Son, Moura, Bergwijn) will make it hard to control a game. Even more so when combined with the sloppy/high risk passer/dribbler Alli.

We were so much more fun to watch and better before we went for the current style of attacking players. When we had Chadli, Eriksen and Lamela, players who could play some ball. And of course it helped that we also had midfielders who owned the midfield, CBs who were great with the ball, and very athletic full backs....

Can't agree with that. Like I said, Kante is vital to them but they have enough world-class players in every position to be fine without him. Saying they would struggle to make the top 6 without him is mental, in my opinion.

Chelsea's 20 final Premier League games last season.
Kante missed 7 games & played 13 with him.

13 games with Kante:
Won 10
Drew 3
Lost 0
For 20 (1.54 p/g)
Against 5 (0.38 p/g)
Points (2.54 p/g)

7 games without Kante:
Won 1
Drew 2
Lost 4
For 5 (0.71 p/g)
Against 10 (1.43 p/g)
Points 5 (0.71 p/g)

There's some statistics to back up what I see when I watch Chelsea play - which is pretty much every game.

This may be heresy, but I would have Gollini as my number 1 goalie. Hugo's been magnificent, but - sorry- those bones are brittle and the reaction time isn't what it was. Time to move on?

And he's been missing for periods before that too. Everyone can pull up certain stats to suit their argument for fucks sake.

Hasn't been involved yet and wasn't on the bench tonight was he?
Maybe they think they can bring some money in by selling Hugo now?

Not that the score should matter, it's hard not to disguise that no one wants to lose against these fucks, it will be the same when we play the scum (and why these derbies should never be played as pre-season games). So, yeah fucking delighted we didn't lose.

Secondly, that fucking cunt Clive Walker on co-comms gut him!

Should have had a pen, Son should have scored and Davies too!

Chavs were the better side by some distance in the first half, without really having that many great opportunities.

To focus on that first half for a moment, I didn't like our 4-3-3, what I thought was wrong and played into Chavs hads perfectly was Nuno played his number 8's (Dele & Skipp) very, very wide. I get the idea here, it requires one of Bergwijn, Son or Lucas to drop in pick the ball up, turn and run or play through the lines to one of the now overlapping 8's. The problem is we couldn't do this, example is where this failed was their first goal, Lucas was one of the front 3 to drop in but he lost the ball, Chavs are lethal in transition and with our 8's so wide we have NO MIDFIELD.

Also in the first half, I felt Son, Bergwjin and Lucas lost most of their 1v1's, a 4-3-3 requires the front 3 to go 1v1.

I've not read any comments but I bet some on here were suckered into Clive Walkers trolling on Dele! He had no idea that he was playing as an 8. He had no idea that no player on the pitch turned over the ball more (both in 1st half and 2nd), yet Kante put in two tackles and he made him out as God!

I was really, really pleased with Gollini, positionally looked good, made a couple of good saves, looked good with his feet, made a lovely one touch pass out to Winks in 2nd half.

Dougherty = Dogshit. Aurier did more in his 10mins than Doherty did in his 80min, just like Tripps the only successful pass he makes is backwards to our CB's, nothing forwards, can't take on his man. Shite.

Reggie, great energy as we so often get from him but he was poor.

Dier - Very good game. Good and constant communication with those around him. Positionally great especially as Reggie was so poor (and PEH miles and miles off the pace in 1st half - PEH didn't close down his man for their 1st goal)

Tanganga - Thought he looked out of his depth-first half, he's a battler who never gives up just not ready yet IMO. Much improved 2nd half once have made their changes.

PEH - Just miles off the pace, which exasperated our non-existent midfield with our wide 8's. Not having a go as he only got back a couple of days ago.

Dele - As mentioned above won more tackles and made more interceptions than anyone on the pitch. I think he's looking fit, he's able to play this deeper role and join attacks. Nothing much on show creatively but that's more down to Chavs being better and our tactics not really helping.

Skipp - Poor first half, unlike Dele lost his battles. Improved 2nd half

Winks - Actually played well. He controlled the tempo and enabled us to get on the ball. I would have preferred him to have started, I doubt he would have been able to do this with Chavs pressing (would like to have seen if he could. We would have learned more if that happened and might have helped PEH settle back in).

FWIW - We played much much better than Woolwich did when they played them at the weekend. Unfortunately, Chavs are miles ahead of us right now, no point losing your shit because the performance wasn't great against a team that I think will push City all the way this year. Just pleased we didn't lose and we didn't sit on the edge of our box for 90mins, right now I'll take it.

What can you present on a forum other than stats to back up an opinion though?
He's one of the best midfielders I have ever seen in the Premier League. Unfortunately up there with Essien & Makelele.

He covers the ground of 2 players. Wins balls he has no right to. Breaks up play so consistently.
The first half of the season he perhaps didn't play his most dominant, but didn't Lampard have that whole side under achieving whilst playing Kante in an attacking midfield role rather than destroying - which he was born to do?

Ziyech, Pullisic, Werner, Mount, Christensen, Kovacic Chillwell, Alonso, Zouma, Riudiger, Aspilequta, etc.etc. etc. are WORLD CLASS??...

Calm down, FFS!

Positives...liked the passing at the back. Doc, Tang and Eric look really confident passing between themselves and Gollini.
Skipp was VG. Scarlett held his own against men. Eric was excellent. BERG SCORED!!! Dele kept plugging away.
Nobody was awful..yeah pretty good.
Edit: Loved that crunching tackle Tang made 2nd half.

Dele was so bad. Constantly giving the ball away and manhandled by Kante.

vlahovic is the solution?

Tempted to agree. Not sure how a goalkeeper can truly develop to their full potential and adjust properly to the pace and physicality of English football if they are mainly used for cup games often against inferior opposition. Looked very solid

Gollini looks the part. At last a bit of pressure on Hugo.
First half we were run ragged by their first choice midfield. You can’t really count the last 25 as they made so many changes.
Skippy did look a bit lost at times.
Shout at me if you will but in midfield Winks is better than Dele.
Dele is just not quick enough with his feet to play midfield.
Can we not play him on the left instead of Bergy. I know he scored but we don’t get much from him. Dele needs to be up near the penalty area. He can knock little balls in or get up for headers.
How about playing him as a false nine. Sonny isn’t good enough to play as a centre forward. Cannot seem to hold the ball.
We certainly need Romero and Tomiyasu at the back and Lo Celso in midfield.
Presume Nuno doesn’tthink Ndombele is fit enough as yet.
Good workout though. Shows how much we need to improve .

Chilwell is. There's only Robertson and Shaw in the country you could argue are better than him. And even if they are it's by no great distance. Rudiger is, on his form since Tuchel joined. Azpilacueta has been. Pulisic and Mount have the potential to be. Ziyech at his best certainly isn't a million miles away. They have a world-class squad.

Not yet. Maybe it's our respect towards Hugo, but I don't think it's time for him to step down as ouw number one just yet...
