It definitely poses more questions than answers.

We need to stop burying our heads in the sand and accept that our football club, our football team, is very much a minor irrelevance in the grand scheme of ENIC.

We served our purpose in facilitating their goal. Now we're just like a little bit of shit stuck to their shoe as they use the club to facilitate their debt.

Do you want them not to use the stadium for extra events to generate cash then, which they’ve said will go back into running the club?

That would be a strange approach for a football club. Every professional club in the country use parts of their stadiums for other events to raise funds. Besides I remember the old WHL hosting the Bruno fight in 1987, how is the Joshua fight any different to that?

Not at all. But it's been clear for some time to anyone who takes their blinkers off that the extra events are not for the benefit of THFC but for the benefit of ENIC.

What do you think holds the most importance for Daniel Levy this weekend.

The success of the Joshua / Usyk event, which is attracting a global audience most of whom have little or no interest in Spurs ......

Or Spurs getting a result in the North London derby. Historically the biggest game of the season for both sets of fans.

Answer the question honestly, contemplate your answer, and you'll get it.

I am not sure it’s true. I think the author is getting confused with the amount of games allowed at the stadium and the amount of extra events which does have a cap, number of matches doesnt. Besides, how could us not being in the champions league mean we wouldn’t have events, that makes no sense at all. We are still in European competition yet having events, just because it’s the third rung one and not the first, is immaterial.
I hope you’re right. Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense.

I think what the journalist is saying is that it doesn't matter if our pitch looks like a potato field for the ECL game?

I agree that we should be using the stadium as often as possible to gain revenue. But I make you right that when the outside activities/events assume more importance than the team and the fans that go there every other week, then it’s an issue

This sums up what is wrong with these owners, they are running this club like an entertainment venue, the football is secondary to them.

Anyone who believes Levy reinvests in order to get a world class football team, need change their medication.

He does nothing, including selling existing players, unless it improves TFC financial status. He aims to be 2nd-4th. It keeps the UEFA money rolling in with the added bonus that we never seen as true winners. As the result, our salary bill is miles off from teams aspiring to win the League.

He Loves shopping for youngsters that could be developed and sold at a profit in the future. No Biggie if they don't make it, they also cost a fraction in wages.

We have a Shopping Mall for a stadium. It can be modified to host most events at the touch of a button. This has swallowed most of the Clubs profits.

We have become a Real Estate Company that sponsors a football team as our hobby.

Excellent points.

One would think that no football stadium had ever been used for events hosting before...

You guys are just making something up to get yourselves upset about.
Read the article. I don’t think anyone has an issue with a multi purpose stadium. Or allowing it to be used as a venue secondary to its main purpose as the home for a (nearly)140 year old football club.
When its uses outside of THFC become as important as or more significant than its main function, then its fucked up. It may be the norm in America, but it’s not how we roll here as little Englanders. We are proud of our club (whoever we support) and our history.
If you can’t see that and don’t feel upset when there is more excitement about a boxing match at the ground than what happens there every other week, then maybe football isn’t actually for you.

No you're right, I'm far more upset about our shitbag owners thinking it's extraordinary and beyond asking to dip into their own pockets to finance the club.

I do not have time for the people upset about our stadium hosting a boxing match.

Silly me for having my priorities out of whack.

I don’t know why I open this thread sometimes - it is the same people making up fanciful stories to sell an agenda that ENIC are bad for Spurs. Every clubs football supporters hate the club owners unless they bankroll the team (Chelsea and City) so it really is just a way of venting for football supporters everywhere.

Just to be clear because people forget this shit when foaming at the mouth, the stadium is owned by THFC. ENIC owns circa 85% of THFC. Revenue from a boxing match hosted by the stadium cannot be magically channeled into ENIC’s pockets. The revenue goes to THFC. If we sell the naming rights on the stadium owned by THFC the money goes to THFC.

We are living in a first world country. It is not possible to “channel money to ENIC“ from THFC except by dividends for the 85% of shares owned. If they did that then
1. THFC would also have to pay the other 15% of shareholders their dividends (They don’t); and
2. The income to ENIC is taxable income.

I don’t know why I bother though. People will build themselves back into a lather about bugger all in a page or two and go back to claiming ENIC are sucking THFC dry.

Both are a big problem. It’s a shame you don’t see that from your perch across the pond.
Over here in the trenches, it’s more than a slight source of amusement or discontent that our owners see THFC as a side dish to their main meal of pimping out the stadium to any event that needs a home, and turning over side profits while we have a 5th choice manager & poor investment in the team. Whether that’s not spending enough, or spending too much on shit, the priorities of the owners don’t appear to be consistent with club success. The ground will make a fortune. It’s an incredible arena. ENIC don’t seem too bothered with its anchor tenant hovering around top 6 & occasionally failing in finals. Maybe you need to be here to see what’s happening and how the ENIC tide is turning.

The one good thing Levy has done recently is tell city to fuck off with Kane. For once, we acted like a big club. Shame that we didn’t act that way when we were flying

Not true at all. Brentford's owners are very popular, as are Leicester's, Villa's and a bunch of other clubs. Now some of these have invested and are ambitious, but not to extraordinary lengths, just to the extent that you know .. they have goals and want to see the club rise and thus become more profitable. Most football fans I know don't hate their owners to the extent ENIC are disliked, other than Woolwich or United fans for example. And that's for very good reasons.

Many other clubs have mostly indifferent owners. The ones that are hated are mostly hated for a reason. Ours are hated because they are overseeing a period of decline, and allowed our squad to rot under the best manager we'd had in ages. Zero investment during that period, no attempt to establish the team long term whilst other big clubs were weak and struggling. Pathetic.

Instead under them we gave our best manager in a long time scraps, and have overseen the season after season decline of our team. And they're utterly incompetent at running the club on any sort of a budget, as their mostly crap appointments display. We have owners who are neither shrewd nor ambitious, of course they get criticised.

So boring seeing people defend them still. Having a shiny stadium but being a bottom half team might make the penny drop, we're certainly teetering on the edge of that. Maybe another decade trophyless and another 80% failure rate when it comes to managerial appointments. Who knows.

I just think there's a "can't see the forest for the trees" aspect going on.

I'm far from happy with ENIC's recent management of the club, but you make any criticism of people making mountains out of molehills and suddenly people act like you're shilling for Levy.

ENIC being more excited about pimping out OUR stadium to a boxing match isn’t making a mountain out of a molehill. Strangely, they were quicker to email me about the opportunity of buying one of the last few tickets for the Joshua fight than they’ve ever been about a ticket for a match. The priorities of ENIC become clearer by the day. If they just fessed up properly instead of constant bullshit eg “Club DNA” before appointing another defensive coach (btw I have nothing against Nuno other than he’s swimming with the big sharks with his speedos full of chump) then at least we wouldn’t have to get our hopes up with false promises. I’m sure the fight will be fantastic. And the stadium will shine. But will it make a difference to the anchor tenants?
