Oh he scored a goal so now must be a great player right? He's ok, more than happy for him to be a squad player, he's better than Winks or Sissoko, just think we need better in the longterm if we want top 4 again anytime soon. Thats judged on his time at Southampton and 13 months with us.
Why on earth would we move Romero, honestlyMaybe we can get a veteran CDM to help out in the rotation? Dier or Cuti might be worth trying there if we get in a pinch too. I know Dier is slow, but we are thin and I’m digging for ideas…
He was poor after Xmas last season. He’s a poor DM but a half decent 8I seem to remember he being one of our better players last season and got nominated for POTM when we topped the league, oh how our memories are short.
Obviously he's gradually got worse since then but then so have we, go figure.
He was very good against Villa as everything went through him mainly because he played alongside the holding mid, quelle surprise.

And? I couldn’t care less what he did for Denmark
He was poor in plenty of games after Xmas, fatigue is a factor but not the primary issue IMOWell no, he was excellent for the first few months then dropped a couple of levels mainly because he started to run out of gas, that doesn't mean he was 'poor'. This happened to all of our players bar Kane by the way so that should tell you the full story, it wasn't all on him.

He’s just a poor DM - looks a much better player with Skipp similar to how he played for Denmark
He was good for the first couple of months when he joined and exceeded expectations. Whats the outlier, his career to date or those 2 months? Since then he is what he was at Southampton, which is an ok box to box midfielder and a probably slightly less than average defensive midfielder.. If he had played for say Everton or Villa and turned in the exact same performances he has with us over 13 months would we really be thinking 'yes he'd be a good player for us, sign him'. Again this isnt saying he's crap or our biggest problem because he isn't. Still think we can and should be looking to improve though.I seem to remember he being one of our better players last season and got nominated for POTM when we topped the league, oh how our memories are short.

Ehhh? You’re saying that he’s “a poor DM but a half decent 8”.

I can. Lloris and Son. Both had iffy patches, Sons longer than Lloris but both more consistant. Kane for obvious reasons has now dipped but this has only been 5 league games, not 6 months like Hojbjerg. Clearly we're not going to agree on this so i 'll leave it there. He was more than good, he was excellent, got POTM for Nov(?) and was one of the best midfielders in the division going by stats and effectiveness, by December he'd registered the most amount of passes in the league (443 in the opposition half - 6th highest in the league) Then what happened....as soon as the season wore on he got gradually worse although still one of our best players although I put a lot of that down to tiredness and having to do 2 jobs in midfield to cover for Ndombele's lack of work rate.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: Is midfielder Spurs' most influential signing?
Has Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had the biggest influence on Jose Mourinho's side since arriving from Southampton?www.bbc.co.uk
But he wasn't an ok DMF for Southampton, he was turning a lot of heads, look at his stats here for example:

Southampton: Superb stats show exactly why clubs want to sign Hojbjerg
A look at the stats that Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has accumulated this season to show why other clubs are interested in signing him.saintsmarching.com
Name me another player in the squad who has maintained his consistency in the last couple of seasons in our squad...you can't. Every player has failed to maintain their consistent levels which is more damming about the team as opposed to the player.
I'd happily sell Winks, Dele and Ndombele as soon as possible and its a big season for Lo Celdo, he needs to show sonething. I'm not suggesting selling Hojbjerg, just that it shouldnt be set in stone that he is starting every week. As it stands he'd be in my team next to Skipp most weeks but i want us to buy a better box to box midfielder January/next summer.Bigger question marks about the future of 4 of our other 5 midfielders right now......
Ndombele, Gio, Dele , Winks
People are just nit-picking frankly.
