Manager Ryan Mason

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Early BMJ vibes from the Mason stint so far.

Not the results we would have wanted, defensively not at it. Jol lost his first game 3-2 to Charlton and then lost 5-4 to Woolwich. But ALOT better than what we saw offensively under the previous manager (Santini/Conte/Stellini) and somewhat getting back to enjoying Spurs again (at times).

A likeable man, who gets the club and wants nothing but the best from it. No interim we got in would have improved us defensively from now until the end of the season. So at least we've gone out in the past two games under Mason and smashed 5 goals in against United and Liverpool instead of just sitting back and hoping they don't score like we've done so many fucking times before.

He won't get the job. It's far too soon for him. But if he can install some pride between now and the end of the season, get results, have us playing a lot better than we have been and end the season strongly then he'd done himself good credit, hopefully can get a management job somewhere and continue to flourish and we can somewhat look forward to a summer with a new manager.

You know what ?

I’d give him the job. .

No matter how many tens of millions they spaff on a new manager it won’t change the inner fragility of the club. Why spend even more to spin around the circle all over again ?

No matter what I might think Mason is a decent human being, who has learned life’s harsh lessons and maybe a good person deserves a break at some stage, and who would I rather see ? Him or the latest mercenary who gives Levy even more hiding room?

If we are going to crash and burn, I’d now rather do it under one of our own than another Conte, Jose etc.

Clubs finished in its current guise. Might as well start again under Mason as anyone.
I want the mercenary for exactly the reasons you state. Mason needs to take his talent and optimise it. Championship club with a bit of ambition.

As frustrating as that was, Mason has to learn from that.

He has to put aside his friendships and the popular players in the dressing room and start picking the kids. Giving Moura minutes is throwing good money after bad when we have youth on the bench who need to prove themselves. They are not going to prove anything watching the cool kids fuck it up week after week.

Give him the job. Guy loves the club. Comes across very well. Has learned from some of the biggest coaches in the business. Young with good ideas. Respected by the players

Mason believes in creating a strong, positive, culture, as per the Pochettino comments I posted earlier in the thread. But he doesn't have time to do much in the few games left this season.

Mason was also there when Kane led the rebellion of the younger players against the old guard of Kaboul, Adeboyor & co, and watched Poch back the kids & transform out team.

He will know a lot about our current youngsters from running the Academy. I hope he starts giving Sarr, Devine & Mundle some minutes, not just because they're talented, but also because they'll bring some energy and enthusiasm. Both to the team and the fans.

Poch on Mason:

If he really wants the job he needs to make a statement for next season in these last 4 games (he 99% wont get the job but still) There is zero point giving any minutes to Lenglet, Moura and Danjuma now, they wont be here next season. Give Devine a start against Palace, whats the worst that could happen? Maybe find a place on the bench for Sayers. Bring Mundle off the bench for a few minutes etc.

The thing is, Lenglet and Danjuma have played well (Lenglet better than the alternatives, while Danjuma has been good whenever he's come on). The bigger statement would be to get rid of the useless fucks like Dier etc. for players who deserve a chance at least.

Well yeah, hopefully Lloris, Perisic, Dier and Hojbjerg wont be here next season as well. I cant agree Lenglet has played well though, Danjuma never had a chance and cant see the point now.

I'd love for him to make it in the game but he is way too green, Levy would bend him over a barrel when it came to requests and demands and what's Mason going to do, walk? I'd be happy with him being the number 2 or 3 under a more experienced coach or going to a champo club for a few years with a view to coming back when an opening arises.

Besides I really don't think Danny boy could give it to Mason even if he wanted to, the press are giving us and particularly him both barrels atm and the optics of turning to a 31 yr old with no management experience are fucking awful. It's too soon for Mason and too soon for us.

Like Mason a lot and think he could be a decent manager but keeping him on would be a terrible decision for him and the club.

We're fucked at the moment. It's not the time for sentimentality. The entire squad and management needs an overhaul.

Nah I'm cool with it. It's funny it's banter it's what football is. I struggle to get why people can't deal with it. I didn't stop supporting Spurs because we are a banter club. It does not effect my self-esteem in any way. LET THE SHAMING COMMENCE !

I've got zero issue with the incoming banter. I expect it & its fully deserved, rinse away. I'll hold my hands up for it.

But going on rival forums under the same username is just being sad. There's having a laugh and then there's being weirdly obsessive over the whole thing.

He made a terrible mistake in the way we set up, but tweaked things and we improved (suppose we could only get better ) but again the players played some football and we looked better 2nd half.

Will be sad to see him go but go he will have to if he wants a chance.

Have stewed this over but that felt like a club that meant something to support today.

That’s worth more than Top4 or trophies. Worth more than big name managers and egos.

Mason is the one.

Give the man the job, make the club bigger than the players again. Make it mean something to come through the academy and be post of something.

Well done for making these players finally press but we need better. And subbing Lucas for Porro who was having an outstanding second half was a big mistake, after that Everton game

Moura is going on a free in the Summer so should not be involved on the field

His head clearly isn’t in it as evidenced by that shocker of a pass for their winner

We came back well from a disastrous start and would thoroughly have deserved a point at least

Certainly persevere with Ryan until the end of the season

Like his spirit

Nah fuck it.

No more of this fake big club stuff.

Dortmund style. Academy kids, young players from all over the world, Mason has something about him. Might take him a season but he’s fucking got something about him.

This is exactly how you end up with an Ole in charge. When the fans get to the breaking point and mere nostalgia becomes incredibly attractive to them & defeats all kinds of logic. The recent record of clubs appointing ex-players is incredibly poor, bar Arteta who still has numerous crap seasons stacked against him. We would have sacked him years ago.

Go after a Nagelsmann or another manager who wants to play high intensity, front-foot football, find the DoF to match and make sensible signings. Relying on nostalgia/a highly emotion led appointment like Mason is NOT the answer to any reasonable question. Do not ruin Mason's career before its even begun with a job he will absolutely not be able to handle, the task faced will be too much for even the most experienced coaches ffs.

Are you serious?

We may just as well have stayed at the old WHL and settled in to eternal mid table mediocrity if that's the case!
We're Tottenham Hotspur for fuck sake. Not Crystal Palace or Fulham!

Let's address the reasons why big name managers like Conte and Mourinho and big name players like Kane and Bale all fail to win under ENIC rather than just throw in the fucking towel and lower our expectations.

I thought we were supposed to be growing as a football club, not diminishing

I'm all good with targeting more of an up & coming coach who gets the fans off their seats again, and targeting the players to suit that. If we have to do another Poch style reboot then so be it, although they better fucking invest in that.

BUT Mason? Fuck. This club can't afford another wasted cycle and people wanna throw in the Ole type appointment based on two games where we went behind but didn't give up? Jesus. I know we've been starved of anything resembling Tottenham this season but let's not turn in to fucking headless chickens.
