Now that plan has failed they have to give De Zerbi every concession under the sun, a longer contract, bigger wages, more control to get him to agree. And no club worth their salt should be giving this much money and control to a volatile manager like Di Zerbi tbh.
For me, under normal circumstance - this is the absolute wrong way to do things. Ridiculous, and principly Im against ceding so much power to any manager, let alone one known to be so volatile.
However, with our embarrassment of a board, our terrible record of managing the football side of things properly - I think having a manager with REAL power might just cover their failures.
And I think, specifically RE de Zerbi, this might be the thing that helps tame that side of him. He has never been at a club this size and stature. Never been at a club with this sort of budget. And never had such a say in how things are done. I mean, what an opportunity for ANY manager. Someone like de Zerbi can afford to take a longer term view, a bigger picture view - and I wonder if thats the sort of thing that could be the making of him (and us)
Though, of course, theres far more hope than expectation in this, ever the optimist
